To be perfectly honest, I'm glad most people don't know me the way I am at home.
I sing in the shower but I couldn't carry a tune to save my life. I act a little goofy when I'm playing with the dog. I get up in the morning and make coffee in my underwear (not a pretty sight)........that kinda stuff.
Be careful what you wish for, my friend.

A lot of people feel the same was as you (i know i do). Although there's this longing to be yourself anywhere you go and mingle with any kind of people in the society, there's something that just holds you back from doing so. Maybe it is called respect or maybe it is shyness (you might be afraid to come out of your shell and scared of what people will say about you). It really is hard to take criticism, so you just tend to act according to how you think the people around you wants you to act. But this isn't too bad a problem though. This is just normal. There is a good side to it too. For instance, the liberties you take at home cannot all be applied to anywhere, anytime, with anyone. There is a proper way to act in a certain situation and a certain group of people. Don't worry, it's not like you are being a hypocrit though. In most cases, its called "behaving"... The important thing is to know how to mingle with people and keep a good attitude, smiling and being polite are very good ways to make friends and get people to like you too. About being your true self, well, it also depends how good you know yourself and then the next step is to determine if you don't have anything to correct first before you show your "real self" to others.

Totally, then I could just shop for thongs and a bra......lol
Acting outside of home takes some people skills so hopefully they accept you as a human being. If I wore my thong and bra to take my son to school, I'm sure the other soccer moms would know that I'm a freak.
But that is what I like to wear at home, except when the gardners come and mow the lawn, then I put on some sweat shorts...hopefully they haven't seen me in my undies.....
I like au natural, wearing as little as possible, my son wears his boxers around the home, so what if I wear my undies around home.....

I find that I can be myself infront of people that I don't know that much and find it harder to be myself infront of people that i've known for years. Thats twisted eh?
I know what ya mean though. I do believe that most everyone is like that. Which I am glad that I don't act exactly like I do at home infront of people. Something's are just best left behind closed doors. Like singing in my terrible voice, laughing a BIG cackle laugh, walking with my feet pointed outward (LOL I don't know why I do this at home, but not in public) And just be my own sloppy happy funny self. I'd rather be more polite, respectful and more 'adult' with others.

I know what you mean. I think it's an excellent goal, to integrate your true self with your public self, so that eventually, you can always be your true self no matter where you are or who is with you.
I think it also makes you a happier, more productive person - you will have more energy and peace in your life if you can stop "editing" your self around others and just be who you are.
good question!

We have all learned to use a different 'persona' in front of others. For example, we are more polite, perhaps listen more, want to fit in, don't want to be left out - so, we adjust ourself to the situation. When we make friends we slowly let our guard down until we can be very natural with that person, that's when we can call that person my 'best friend'

Did you have an emberrasing moment once and it just stayed with you,or do you just have a shyness problem? If your friends and family love the real you then go out there and be yourself and if they don't like you then tough ...their the ones missing out as far as i'm concerned, right. GO BE YOU....good luck

I act the same way...it is a double edged sword...having few inhibitions means that you say and do inappropriate things quite often!

Everyone has masks that they wear when in public, because of our insecurities.I try to always be myself in or out of public. As you get older you will be more willing to just be yourself and to hell with people who are judgemental.
