I am getting over being sick except I have a cough that is taking awhile to go away. Yesterday I coughed up this bloody looking clot thing. Otherwise I feel fine and I have not done it since. What could this be. Should I be worried?

Best guess....you ruptured a blood vessel in your throat.
It happens with excessive coughing.
Keep an eye on it ...assuming you have a productive cough, check the sputum for signs of more blood. I would bet that the bleeding clears up within a day.

I have also coughed up blood on a few occasions and I know how worrying this is. Its best to get it checked out. I actually had several different reasons for it viral and bacterial infections and my latest escape from a month ago, was a mycoplasma infection (or walking pneumonia). (Also I coughed up a clot after i had had a bleeding nose). I did go to a specialist and had a bronchosocopy (a tube into the lungs..which was a very interesting process I must say) just to check it out. However its best to get it checked out....I freaked out when it happened to me and I waited 2 weeks and in the end it was just my lungs reacting to infections etc.

Get it checked. Coughing up blood isn't as serious as throwing it up. It's probably drainage from your nose. But I'd tell your doctor in any case.

Coughing up blood is called hemoptysis. It is a sign of potentially serious infections such as TB or other diseases such as cancer. See a doctor
immediately.
