I am sure there are as many varieties of guavas as there are of mangoes - but probably not in the same place.
I have had guavas in Hawaii that are completely different from the ones in South America - or India.

I know of three popular varieties grown in India,we have Allahabad safeda,Lucknow 49 & a red fleshed variety with a faint rose aroma,research is ongoing so i would not be surprised when newer varieties come on the scene.
