It is not all religions that portray women in this manner. Egyptians have their Goddesses, Hindus...
Before Christianity became so prominent in the world, there was Goddess worship...
Christian men felt threathened by this religion because of the role men played within it - they had none! The men who were part of this religion were castrated and the women were the leaders.
Later, Goddess worship was condemned - statues were destroyed, temples demolished...Women were seen as good for one thing only - having babies.
But those men were stupid because in trying to take the focus away from women, they never realised that what they were in actual fact doing was just giving women the most important role of all...having babies! Because, let's face it - people (men included) are not hatchlings. They are formed in a woman, they come out of a woman, they are nurtured and cared for by a woman...
So while women no longer play an important role in SOME, not all, religions, we are still very important.

Because, unfortunately, men wanted it that way. Most of the "holy" books were written by men to put them in a place of authority over women.
Yes women use to be in positions of authority, and were even worshiped for their child bearing. Some of the oldest religious artifacts were of mothers of one form or another.
It is understood that this change happened when the role of men changed from the hunter who was out all the time to the farmer who was now home all the time.
There are however, several religions that do worship both a feminine and masculine Divine as well as one the I know of that exclusively worships a feminine Divine. If this really interests you, perhaps you should seek one of those faiths.

May be you find more instances appear in some religious stories, where many men are holy and very very less instances on women as holy person. With this we cannot come to the judgment.
It all depends how a religion is evolved. What were the circumstances during that time. The whole subject is vast.
To Simplify : Study Hinduism : There are mainly 3 gods, Brahma, Vishnu, Siva. But for these three there is a supreme Goddess who is "Adi para Sakhti" : Adi means The First, para means Eternal Shakthi means Power. She is women. She got the first place. Where as the wives of Vishnu is Laksmi. You cannot find a (moorthi )statue of Vishnu ,rather you can find many of Lakshmi who is worshiped widly. You can rarly see Siva without Parvathi ,one of his two wives. The other wife Ganga is always on the top of Siva's head. you cannot find an image of siva without Ganga.
these are just few instances : There are many examples of holy and Ideal women like Sita, Arundati etc.
So its there is no such thing like women are not holy. Definetly they are Holy.

Long before men knew they had a soul (or a brain for that matter), women (and men who knew better) worshiped goddesses. The female goddesses outdated the male. Women were held in high esteem and were equal to men. (Like the first of the two accounts of creation where Eve was created with Adam. When Abraham started to worship the one true God, he realized that all of the female gods had to go. This did not happen overnight. When Moses met with God, the symbol of one of the female goddesses, the serpent became a part of his staff. The serpent became the evil one in the garden. This was all to put down the worship of goddesses and to lower the status of women.
In time the worship, among the Israelites, was to one God only. The role of women was not equal to the men.

There are books in the Bible written by women: Ruth and Esther. Both are written to speak of these Godly women and their lives of devotion. And both, by their obedience, saved a nation from destruction. And there are excerpts within the historical books of the Old testament which laud the praises of a particular woman, one being judge of all Israel and leading them into battle. Jesus also said that in heaven there is neither male or female, and that all will be equal. Christianity has elevated the status of women, while every other religion in the world makes them subservient.

Tell me, aqua, why does Mary not count?
Was she not a good, holy woman?
How about Mother Teresa? She loved and served the poor with all her heart even if she lived in the crummiest of all places. She was a very saintly person while alive.
Women have an IMPORTANT role in society. Didn't you ever think about your mother who gave birth to you? Don't women have the VERY important responsibility of caring for their young? Labor is very painful. I find it very generous of women to go through that for their children.
Even those who are not mothers are important as well. There are many activists (ie Greenpeace is mostly women) out there who are good people and help others out. Many women celebrities donate as well to the poor and suffering. Some join important causes like Princess Diana i think had a monetary fund versus land mines in war torn nations.
Many women out there are holy and saintly. You can be one too as well, Aqua.
Thank You and God Bless,

nearly all religions, men are holy...why aren't women because of men writing them and degenerating women in the process.
because its totally the opposite women are holiest of the hol they control the future, and must be treated with great respect,
also "the God" is a women Deity and a great avatar but some misunderstand that she as the Creator of 'all' when she can creat people in heaven Asexually.
satan want to be equall and was cast out of heaven.

Many of the "major religions" tend to place women in a "less holy" or "tainted" role - or, at least, are interpretted to do so.
Fortunately, there are a number of other religions that do consider women as holy, that prize women who aren't passive. The trick is to find them.

Women can also be holy. But generally, woman should be under the protection of a "qualify man". Spiritually speaking, we are the same, woman and man bodies are just external outward dress of the spirit soul. Still as a man and woman, we have different roles according to our nature.
