There are many important factors to consider and evaluate that govern a display's performance. Nevertheless, within a comparable price range, and all other things being equal, the answer is yes. For more information please read Dr. Raymond M. Soneira's reports (see link* below.)

Dr. Soneira, relying upon measurements and detailed evaluations, found that LCOS matched – and frequently bettered – both single-chip and 3-Chip DLP in EVERY image quality category (see "Table 1: Display Technology Assessments" from link [1].) Unlike LCOS, high performance 3-Chip DLP suffered from temporal and spatial dithering artifacts which are further compounded by rainbow and wobulation artifacts in the more common single-chip DLP displays. The black level, contrast ratio, gamma, and gray-scale performance of LCOS technology was consistently equal to or better than DLP.

One caveat - the performance for a typical rear projection based LCOS display often falls a bit short of the performance found in most LCOS front projectors.

"LCoS got an A and Rank 1, close behind was the CRT with an A- and Rank 2, DLP got a B+, and Rank 3, with a slight advantage for the 3-Chip over the 1-Chip. Plasma and both LCDs received a B, and tied for Rank 4. They are simply too close to call for general applications, but any specific application will most likely favor one significantly over the others."

"And the winner is… LCoS, the new Reference Standard for overall image and picture quality, dethroning the CRT after more than 75 years at the top."

The DLP has better "black levels"...The color "black" actually is displayed as black...LCoS is a form of LCD and they both display "black" as "gray" instead.

But, LCoS and LCD have better "greens" and "yellows" than DLP...But DLP had better OVERALL color reproduction...Both can produce a "1080p" signal, the highest form of Hi-Def available.

i say stay away from rear projection tvs we had one and the lamps get dull a lot quiker than any other tv they do have good picture at first but price isn't worth it. go with a LCD tv they are the best buy for the buck and you know they'll last practally a life time with little problems but thats my opinion (i could be wrong?)
