Basically it's because the last time he was here he caused problems at the airport so was refused entry...and if you have been refused entry once it's pretty damn hard to be allowed in at all...

In April last year Snoop Dogg and members of his entourage were arrested at Heathrow airport for "violent disorder and affray" after being turned away from a British Airways' first class lounge.

One month later Home Office official judged that the rapper, real name Calvin Broadus, should be denied entry to the UK for the foreseeable future due to the trouble at the London airport as well as his previous convictions in the US.

A spokeswoman for the Home Office said she couldn't comment on an individual case, but did point out that foreign citizens could be barred from entering the country if there were concerns about their presence.

"The Home Secretary has the power to refuse entry clearance to non-U.K. citizens if he considers that their presence here would not be conducive to the public good," said the spokeswoman, speaking on condition of anonymity in line with department policy.

In April 2006, the rapper, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, and five other men were arrested on charges of violent disorder and starting a brawl, and spent the night in jail after trouble flared when some in his party were denied entry to British Airways' first class lounge at Heathrow Airport.

Seven officers received minor injuries — mainly cuts and bruises — and one suffered a fracture to the hand.

Snoop Dogg was previously barred from entering Britain in May 2006.

I think American citizens don't need a holiday to visit Britain on holiday. However, Snoop Dogg may be going to the UK to work, in which case he needs a visa that allows him to do that.

His request was not for a tourist visa which he would not require as a US Citizen staying in the counrty for less than 90 days - what he needed was a work visa that allows him to work in a foreign country and earn money and it has something to do with how much he pays in tax and other financial issues.

The 'visa' he needs is called a Work Permit - all professional entertainers need one if they're coming to UK to perform for money.

He is not going to visit, he is going for work because of his tour. If he is going to make money there, he needs authorization for that.
