Yes. Tradition means that there is an element of being "locked" into something...
Being locked into something makes it hard / impossible / forbidden to change...
To progress, change needs to occur...
Traditional beliefs very rarely allow change, and therefore no ability to think for oneself - the perfect example of this is religion.
Even if a being discovered something that didn't add up, wasn't relevant, charitable, or consciencious - the tradition relevant to that idealism would most probably dismiss any allowance of progressive thought. Progress means change - tradition locks you away from relevant healthy progressive change. Sad, but true!

No I think they are opposite. If we let current beliefs like everyone is a superstar, as long as they look good, or as long as they pass the Calif. St. HS test, they are good for many engineering or architectural practices. LOL, the old belief, which was abandoned in the 70's, was a pass fail grade. Now, a student just has to pass the state aptitude test and qualify for college enrollment or GED.
What a waste of the teacher's time and effort, they should teach the questions on that test then, like abc's or something.
Traditional aspects are legally not allowed in America right now thank you to those lawyers who brought this on your children, but they are now being taught that competition is for weak races and that all kids should be winners......unfortunately, there aren't enough job opportunities for them.....lol

They can be obstacles to one's knowing the truth beneath those beliefs, if they do not match reality. In deeper terms, there are no obstacles. We are free.
Interesting name...
