Americans are spoiled. As a citizen of the U.S. I personally have great respect and admiration for Australians. They are what we used to be here. Yes we are friends and close allies. The U.S. would never let another country invade Australia. It is a country that I would love to visit but its so far to go.

I wish I could live there.

You've actually answered the question: Americans are spoiled. Not only that, they are ingnorant to the point where most of them have probably never heard of Australia.
Sure, some will object to that statement of mine - they may have heard of Oz, but note that I said MOST, not all.
Americans visiting Oz will complain that Oz newspapers have no US news in them. But just point out that the Australian press does at least mention the US on probably a daily basis, but US newspapers will never ever mention Australia.

I think of Australians as more than foreigners. They have been one of America's best allies.

I also love the competitive spirit between our nations, in sports and business.

Yeah.... we are a bit spoilt aren't we?

I believe that the current association at a political level between the US and Oz is actually backfiring and the discerning members of the general population are moving to distance themselves from the USA.

There is ample evidence to show that most inhabitants of the US are not too smart, just look at who they have elected for the last three presidential terms. I don't believe they give a stuff about Australia actually.

You say you're an Aussie and yet you seem out of touch with the thinking of your fellow Australians.
p.s.
We are foreigners when we travel to the U.S.
