My daughter is two, and she knows the complete ABC's, can count to 10, and can spell her name (Sophia). She knows some sign language too. It's amazing what kids can soak up when you work with them a little.

My daughter doesn't watch much tv, and I realized recently that she wasn't going to learn her ABC's 'accidentally' like many kids who watch Sesame Street, or a show like that. So, each morning, before starting our day, I would sing the ABC's, & count to ten. Just one time, no big deal. By the third day, she was singing parts with me. In a few weeks, she's singing it alone. It's just a little cuddling thing we do before getting out of bed. In fact, when she's ready to get out of bed, she says, 'ABC 123 Mama?'

All kids are different, some are more verbal than others at that age. I have a video of my first daughter (who seemed to be way ahead at everything), when she was 1 1/2 in her playpen, singing the abc's. She was an early verbal girl, and picked up things so quickly. Fast forward 12 years, and she's a high honors student. My son who is 7 - he just didn't care about that stuff much. He learned them, probably at 3 or 4. He's in 1st grade, and a good reader and good at math.

It's fun when they get things early, but please don't make it a stress to make them learn it. And don't feel bad if you see another child (younger), that is doing something your child is not. It can be exhausting to keep up with all those other kids. And there will always be someone who can do something better or faster than yours. Just have fun with your child. They will learn the abc's before they're 10 (haha!). Seriously, they'll learn it when they need to learn it. If it's at 2 - great. If it's not until they're in pre-school, they'll probably learn it faster, if they're older.

If it's something you want to work on, just a little bit at a time, be careful not to stress out your child. Make it fun, or a game, in short doses.

As far as my daughter learning to spell her name? We didn't even try. My older daughter was writing on an etch a sketch, and was writing her name. She would say each letter as she wrote it. After writing it 3 times, my 2 year old said, "S... o... p.... h... i...a.... MY NAME!" We laughed and laughed, it was so cute. So, I can take no credit, she's just at that mimicking stage, and she's pretty good at it.

Sounds like your daughter is a smart one. Enjoy her!

All of my children, except youngest who hasn't turned two yet, and I have five by the way, learned their abc's by age two. However, they also learned how to count to ten, and knew their colors. I think this is typical. All children learn differently though and at their own pace. My 22 month old daughter can already count to ten. I think it's pretty normal.

a lot of kids around the age of 2 or 3 can sing or say their alphabet and count to 10. it is pretty average. it is when they recognize all their letters and the sounds that they are in around 5 or 6 and know them out of order and the same with their numbers and counting.

My daughter had it down by 3 1/2 however every child is different. And each parent is different on how they work with their child. I worked with her alot.

Dont rush your child they will get it. Just be patient. If you stress them out it will take longer. At 5 she was singing them backwards too lol hahaha that always made me laugh. She would stumble a little but did it well lol

my daughter could say the entire alphabet at 18 months old, now she is three and can count to 20 in english and almost to ten in spanish. but we sung her the abc's a lot, along with other songs, and sesame street and dora are wonderful learning shows.

Depends - do you want them to know the song, or know their alphabet?

5 year olds may know how to sing the song (if they concentrate), yet not be able to say it without a tune.

8 year olds still may be confused.

by 9 or 10 they should have it down-pat!
