Ad-Aware- The free personal edition can be updated for the life of the product and scans for all types of adaware and spyware. it is available from their site @ http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware
AVG Antispyware- available in free version and downloadable version when you download it, it acts as a 30 day trial commercial version letting you have the resident shield of the antispyware product on, however, after the trial ends the program become a limited freeware program where you can update and scan for all types of spyware and adware download from their site@ http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5 or
Spyware Guard is also another good free antispyware tool which can be downloaded from their site @ http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareguard.html
Spyware Terminator is an excellent one and offers the best features of a commercial one for free it protects you from spyware and adware and searches for all of these their site is http://www.spywareterminator.com/
Another good tool which you can also check out is Spybot which you can download from their site@ http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

well if u want the best, then the best is spybot search & destroy.... its way better than all the paid ones around, i use it and strongly advise u to use... up to now it has cleaned around 20 spywares in my pc, and it has a resident real-time scanner too... u get all this for free!
