i blame it on the fact that 9 times out of 10 the was F U C K ups before they came in the military,, and then when you put some in charge of them that will tell them what to do,, they try to fight it and think it is the NCO's fault that they are that way,, when in fact it's that i have to jump feet first in to there A S S every time i see them,, but i can say that a few of them turn out ok after you work with them a little

Are you really in the Marine Corps? Even as a Soldier, I know enough to use title case when spelling out the name of your corps...
Anyway, assuming that you are, I believe that part of the problem might be poor leadership. Any unit whose command and senior NCOs allow leaders to call their subordinates "f%ckups" is probably a broken unit in general and needs some serious leadership attention. As leaders, it is our job to work with and mentor our subordinates, allow them to capitalize on their strengths, while at the same time working to improve their weaknesses. I am sure there is something similar in the Marines, but in the Army we have an extensive system of counseling (both verbal and written), as well as other means to rehabilitate Soldiers who are sub-standard. If all else fails, we can impose a bar to reenlistment, which essentially will end that Soldier's career (if they had a career to begin with).
Anyway, as far as psychology goes...some folks are just not cut out for military life. Sometimes it simply has to do with the fact they can't think quickly enough on their feet, they get frustrated with the military mindset, or they simply cannot handle discipline. Some folks join the military for the money rather than out of a sense of duty or patriotism, which isn't the best reason for joining. Some folks don't want to deploy, and they think acting like idiots will keep them out of the desert.
In my opinon, this is where the Army Reserve/Guard truly shine. A good percentage of the folks in the Guard/Reserve do not NEED to be in the military, they make good salaries in their civilian jobs, but do it for love of God and country. That's the reason I'm starting my 17th year in the Reserve Component. I truly don't need the money, but love the Army and love what I do...

In WWII there were two types of "screw-ups". The most prevelant were those who rebeled against authority, particularly non-coms. These men usually became the eight-balls of their squads. Amazingly, they were usually dependable when the chips were down.
The others were those who were unsuitable for being a Marine. Boot Camp usually eliminated them, but, alas, no system is perfect.

In the army we call them officers ( hahahahaha) , just joking. I know what you mean though. I think its that they are subconciously affraid, and this causes people who are normal in the regular world to be military F#@K UPS !!!
My favorite name for them is dirtbags. It just fits so nicely.
