Easter, the Feast of the Resurrection, the Sunday of the Resurrection, or Resurrection Day, is the most important religious feast of the Christian liturgical year, observed between late March and late April (early April to early May in Eastern Christianity). It celebrates the resurrection of Jesus, which his followers believe occurred on the third day after his death on Good Friday by crucifixion some time in the period AD 27 to 33. In the Roman Catholic Church, Easter is actually an eight-day feast called the Octave of Easter.
Easter also refers to the season of the church year, lasting for fifty days, from Easter Sunday through Pentecost.

It is the 3rd day after Jesus Christ was dead and on this day at sunrise, he is brought back to life. Oh, he still has the holes in his wrists (not hands like most people say) and feet and the wound in his side (right side of rib cage) but they are...well, healed but well on their way to becoming scars. See if Jesus just died that would be only half of it...it is great that He died for us...don't get me wrong...after all, that is the part where our sins are paid by Him instead of us having to pay for them. But our true hope lies in the fact that He really did rise from being dead for 3 days and He later (40 days after easter) rose to Heaven to be seated at the right hand of God The Father. Not the Godfather...sorry...had to put that in there. Anyway, there are 3 parts to God and He is One God...it is rather confusing. He is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. After Jesus left to go to Heaven, 10 days later (so now we are at a total of 50 hence the name Pentecost=50 days) the Holy Spirit came down and like tongues of fire, entered the believers and though there are rarely ever visual things resembling a tongue of fire, the Holy Spirit is in every true believer to this day. To check all this out yourself, the Gospels of Matthew Mark Luke and John tell up to His resurrection (Easter). I recommend John. Then right after the book of John is the book of Acts. This is where the story picks up right after Easter and goes through what I described (in better detail) and a few years after this point. It is one of my favorite books of the Bible. I recommend NOT using the King James Version (though the New KJV is fine) since the language is nearly 400 years old and a bit outdated, Shakespearian sounding and hard to follow.

Easter is tied in with the Jewish Passover and the pagan equinoctial celebrations. Much of the symbolism predates the Christian festival.
