Why must we pit and compare? I thought the point of religion is to live a righteous life, not to be prideful about it.

Why must we promote fight by comparing religions?

Cheesecake or Moist Chocolate cake?

I think it is important to compare them because eventually, we will find the common ground that all religions are based on. Which to me, is that we should be good people, treat others well, don't be judgemental, and don't hate. What gets me is how people find reasons TO hate and be judgemental based on those self same teachings.

I think there's a difference between 'comparing' and 'pitting against'.

I think there's nothing wrong with comparing how other people arrived at their beliefs and what those beliefs say in respect to your own

That seems like a good way of making sure you are happy with the answers your beliefs provide. It can clarify doubt. Strengthen beliefs. Whatever.

But to say 'My (God/belief/religion/chocolate cake) is better than your (...) is daft. That sort of pride assumes that there is always a 'right' and a 'wrong' answer. And there just isn't any evidence of that. It's all opinion. So no, I see no point in that.

What flavour cheesecake do you have?

I know my answer will be controversial and may make many upset, but I will say it anyway. From reading your questions and answers I see that you are a person who respects other people's views.
I believe there is only one true God and only one way to have a relationship with Him. If God made all human beings with the same capability to know Him, why would He chose different religions for different cultures or language groups? Why would the different religions contradict each other in some major areas? I think that God's and man's enemy, Satan, is the source of all religions that contradict God's one and only truth. What better way to deceive people than to introduce other belief systems and religions?
I believe all the pitting and fighting against one another is because people are NOT SURE THEIR FAITH IS THE RIGHT ONE! Therefore they have to fight against others to try and protect their own belief system.
Why all the "scare tactics" of religious leaders saying:"If you leave this religion you are damned forever!" Is it not their own hunger for power; 'the more people that follow me the more powerful I am'? Is it not their own greed and pride to use the money that comes into their coffers to build bigger buildings for their religion--or their own ego? (I am not saying that all big buildings or big religious gatherings attest to that, but I often wonder about the true motives.)
If I am convinced that my faith is the right one, then I can calmly share my faith with others and don't have to try to persuade them. I can listen to their arguments, learn how they think, debate with them. It can open my mind to how others think and believe.

But at the end of the day I can come back to know that I have a personal relationship with the living God and that no argument of others can shake that.

We MUST NOT. However, we do.
We are in a religion because we share a belief with the others within that religion. And those who do not share that belief, we assume, belong to other religion. We "pit and compare" because human nature would always want others to believe in whatever he believes in. This is the same as racism, among any other issues. Whites believe that they are more superior than those of races of other colors. The main difference is, we can't change our color and identity, but we can change our belief. So that missionaries (of different religions) are everywhere to convince the others to believe in whatever they believe in.

We MUST NOT compare our belief with the others' belief and fight with others insisting that ours is the way or the best of all. We have to learn to respect one another's belief and live with one another despite the differences.
I am a Catholic and currently in a country where Buddhism is the main religion. It was really strange at first because the lives of the people here are governed by their belief in Buddhism. I tried my very best to know about it and now I am living with it. I am not saying I am a Buddhist now but I don't condemn them because they have a different belief from mine nor do I think that my religion is the right way. I look past this aspect of our differences and be thankful that I got to learn about and experience this first hand. What I am grateful most is that despite our different religions, we all get along well. They are a nice people.
So you see, it doesn't have to be "against one another". It is supposed to be "with one another."

the answer my friend is blowing in the wind. well, one thing must be pretty obvious isthat they are bumping into each other more and more. plane and such. there are impossible fundamental differnece and somebody has to go home. oil and water wont mix. now if they dropped the all but buddhism all would work out. i think God approves of Buddhism although Buddhist are not sure about God. It believe in peace and less competion to strive for all the things we pile in our rooms. The secret to buddhism is lifelong meditation to lessen the natural cravings. any cravngs. a simple life is sought. many are not so successful but the know it is right. the arbrahamic big three will always war until one dominates totally. they may kill us all. (ooh i have cravings for cheesecake noo choclate noo both!)

Well, I love comparing religions, but not to fight about them. I think healthy debate is ok, but it must be done with respect.

Oh man, I want both cheesecake and moist chocolate cake! Do I have to pick just one?!

I think a lot of people really believe that they are right and everyone else is wrong and they want to try to prove it somehow and make the others 'see the light' or 'save' them from something (hell/delusion). Sometimes that gets out of hand and ends up with people arguing and fighting over religion. Personally I wish people could just get along and live in harmony despite differences in their beliefs.

I think people want to be superior that the other. They want to let the world know that they are better than the rest. And so, certain religions followers misunderstood the whole things about religions and start doing all the comparison. If a person really understand his/ her religions well, i don't think these things will happen. By the way, we are brothers and sisters with the same Father. Jesus said "When you do the least to one of my brothers/sisters, you do it to me". We are all in fact adopted children of God.

Cheesecake but that is because I make a great homemade cheesecake.

But you are forgetting the other religions out there. They aren't fighting for king of the hill. They already know spiritually that where they are is where they should be.

Religions are not to be compared together, but to be understand it by others, chose what ever you want or you believe in and that you think it is the right one, and at the end every one will know if he was right or wrong, just and in all religions, don't harm others.
