Here is 7 good 22 caliber rifles of 5 different brands, all are very good Quality, Thompson Center, Remington and Ruger being my favorite.
I am a tube feed fan over detachable magazine for one reason, most tube feed will work as well with 22 shorts as well as long rifle ammo the 2 Remington being my most favorite for hunting.
22 shorts are nice and quiet and don’t spook the squirrels when being fired as much as a 22 long rifle does.

Thompson Center R 55 Classic 22 LR Semi auto.
Remington model 572 Pump action
Remington Speedmaster model 552 Semi auto
Ruger 10/22 semi auto
Ruger Model 77/22 – 22 Long Rifle Bolt action
Henry Lever Action 22 cal. Rifle
Marlin 925C 22 LR Bolt action

Prices very from area to area any where from $200.00 to $500.00.
You can save money by buying used after getting a good idea of new prices by shopping around.

That my opinion.

I shot my first round of .22 ammo from a ruger 10/22 some 30 years ago now. I still shoot it at least once a month. Both of my sons now own ruger 10/22's, and I have purchased one for my now aged father that purchased mine for me when I was 8. I've never come across any .22 in the same price range that opens up so many options (and I've never experienced any malfunctions at all.) Good luck!

No complicated answer here.

Wal-Mart sells the Mossberg "Plinkster" .22 rifle, the Marlin Model 60 .22 rifle and the Ruger 10/22 .22 rifle. Anyone of these will work fine for you and they are all under $200.

Ruger are the best for semi automatics the rugers never jam on you. i have a ruger 10/22 i've shot off the clip as fast as i can and it never jammed. Remington, wincheters, and savage arms are excellent to. The rugers go for about $400.00 and up but you could esealy find a used one for $200 and the other 3 rifle makers there .22 go for about $200 and up, which is a great price for those rifles because of there well made construction.

Well I don't feel like typing a book for you so I will make it short and sweet. If this .22 is not for a beginner then I would get the Ruger 10/22. My Dad has one and its perfect in every way. You can buy 30 round or 20 round bannana clips for them too!

If it is for a beginner then I would get a bolt action Ruger .22 because using a bolt action helps the beginner from becoming "trigger happy" or in other words from becoming a un-safe shooter. I learned off my Marlin Bolt Action and so now I'm probably one of the safest shooters you will hear from! Not that I'm perfect by any means.

That is my answer and so I hope you like it!

P.S. the price will range from $150-500 about

RE:
could somebody tell me who makes a good .22 rifle and tell me how much it is too?

There are a number of good .22 bolt action rifles from new $160 to well over $500. Bolt action rifles are inheriently more accurate than semi-autos and they are easy to operate and clean.

That said, many semi-auto reach the accuracy obtained in a bolt gun.

I like the Marlin Model 60, it is the affordable, 'Everyman's' .22 rifle that is the best selling rifle in the world for good reason. Inexpensive, easy to operate and not too difficult to clean (do not take it completely apart until you know what you are doing!).

The Ruger 10/22 is very common and will be recommended by many folks. I have owned several and found the Ruger to be much less accurate "out of the box" plus the magazines are for me a P.I.T.A. to load.

You can change out the barrels for extreme accuracy and the 10/22 is the rifle that has a seemingly endless selection of accessories to modify it....from mild to extreme. I find many of these accessories to be useless junk. Think of those overgrown adolescents who put big giant wings on the back ends of their Honda Civics....this seems to be the market for most 10/22 aftermarket accessories.

I highly recommend you start shooting your rifle using the iron sights without a scope. When you become good at shooting it naked, then add a quality scope with rings.

Do not buy the many cheap scopes on the market. For optics, you truly do get what you pay for. Expect to spend in the neighborhood of $40 to $75 for a scope. Less will get you junk in most cases and they are just not worth the frustration. Also, avoid overpowered and multi-adjustable powered scopes. Too much stuff to adjust that is really jnot needed for most shooters. A good 4x works well for me..... Simmons - Mfr# 511022 available from Cheaperthandirt.com for $35 or find yourself a used Weaver scope at a show or on ebay.....these were made in El Paso and they are better used than any scope you can find new for your .22.

I have a recent .22 bolt rifle that has amazing accuracy. I have noticed that some of the sillouette shooters at my club now use them. They are called a TOZ and made in one of the former communist eastern European countries and it is as accurate as any $800 target rifle and sells for $170. See your gun shop and ask him if he can get one from Centerfire systems for you.

You can usually find very good used .22 rifles at gun shops and pawn shops....but you must know what you are looking for and you need to write down the model number and do pricing research. Very good used should be 50% to 75% of new. You will find prices marked up high and you need to make an offer and negotiate.

The Ruger 10/22 is a good semi-auto .22. Look for them in your nearest Academy store. On special they'll be around one-fifty.

CZ 452 ZKM Standard (beechwood stock)-$280 (bolt action)
CZ 452 ZKM LUX (walnut)-$355 (bolt action)
Ruger 10/22 (prices vary, $179-399) (auto)
Remington 597 (prices vary/$139-?) (auto)
Thompson Center "Classic" (as previously mentioned/prices vary/$399-?) (auto)

There are so many to list. These are just a sampling. Get a good one. Don't buy a Marlin or a basic Savage (one without the new trigger).
