Symantec Antivirus is frankly resource hungry, it take a quite a bit of your system memory some time even slow down your system, if your are looking for a good antivirus solution then i think you should try NOD32 or KAV both are good and there usage of memory is lesser then Symantec Antivirus, if you want free antivirus and good one the try AVG free Edition.

All Norton products are resource-hogs, they put all sorts of hidden entries in your registry and create lots of problems. Symantec's customer service is terrible too. I've tried most of the anti-virus programs out there and AVG is the best.
