hi! i recently moved into a studio apartment. i left my two dogs, a chihuahua and a great dane at my parents' house and i'm already missing them. so now i'm thinking about getting a new dog. please help me decide on a small probably toy dog that is relatively clean, does not bark a lot and has a sweet, calm personality. i'm thinking about a toy poodle, shih-tzu, or a pomeranian but i don't know their personalities and i hope you can help me with that. other suggestions for a dog would be greatly appreciated too. thanks!

go with the shih-tzu. They are loveable but they want to be treated like royalty.

We have a rat terrier, they are extreamly smart!! They are very loyal and our Daisy goes with the flow. She will be good to babies that pull on her skin, tail and pinch on her face, she is good with toddlers that want to hold her all the time, and she is excellent with adults. I have been very sick lately and she does not leave my bed. She will growl if anyone would try to remove her from my bed. She stays by my side all the time and is very affectionate! Because she is so smart she is helpful around the house. She understands everything I say! She knows which room I tell her to go into and we have 12 of them, she knows which car she should get into and we have three of them, she knows who is coming over, by the way she responds, some people she likes more than others, so she will wait at the door for some people and hide when others come. You would love a dog like her.

Skip the Pomeranian. They can be bossy and sometimes nip. The other two are good choices. And a Boston Terrier is a very sweet , easy to train dog. Pugs and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are nice dogs, as well. Whatever you get I wish you luck with your new doggie.

DO NOT get a pom. They are yappy, nippy and LOUD.
If you want a clean dog go with the toy poodle, they don't shed. Hair can be messy, it can get anywhere, including your food... Yuck. MAN you need to take the dog breed selector quizzes. As far as I can see, none of those breeds matches you as well as the pappilon. I think I answered a similar question recently, I think the Pappilon is the breed for you.

Why did you leave your dogs behind? Now you want another dog?

It sounds like you are in to big of a rush to get another dog. Does your apartment complex accept pets? What kind? That is very important that you know this.

Go to your local animal shelter/rescue group. There are manly animals that need a loving FOREVER home.

Go to: http://www.mypetnanny.info/PD/index.htm

Before you get any pet, do your research first!! Make sure that the pet is right for you and you are right for the animal.

before i got my cat i had 2 very well behaved Pekingese they could be yappy if u don't find a docile one, my two where brother and sister and neither barked a whole lot nor did they nip. these dogs have a tendency to think they are kings and queens so if u do get one make sure u have high chair and a pillow on top of it so it can feel as just. :) good luck in your search.

boy you had the small and the big previously, but really the only dog as far as I am concerned for apartment living is a poodle, they do not shed their hair, yes it is hair and not fur like most dogs, they are loving, and give so much pleasure with their intelegence ,, it is up to you whether the dog would become a "yappy" dog, depends on how you train it.

good luck

Go to your local shelter or pound, they will be overflowing with small sweet dogs in desperate need of new homes. But wait until you have a house with a yard - dogs should not be kept in apartments, in fact most apartment owners won't allow it.

Personally, I'd go with a doxie (Weenie dog).

They're extremely territorial and will be EXCELLENT guard dogs. Very proud creatures, very clean, very noble. They have a wonderful temperment and can be extremely comical. They're always good for a laugh and love to cuddle.

I bought my mother a doxie for christmas and he's the best thing I've ever bought in my life. He's truly the most wonderful creature.

the Pomeranian are great and such lovable animals, they like dancing, dress up and play, but it is almost a full timer in training, and yes they do love to lick your toes, i wonder why.
