Hi

I'm from Glasgow however my family moved from Sicily before I was born. There is a very large Italian community in Glasgow in fact there is an Italian club in Greenock (not far from Glasgow). The people from Glasgow are mostly very welcoming. The best areas to stay are the West End or the South Side. I would suggest that you house share as the rent in Glasgow is quite high, my brother Giovanni is a letting agent so he could help you find a place. Glasgow has the best shopping district outside of London - that's official. Concerning jobs I would recommend you and your boyfriend offer Italian Lessons. You can charge £10 - £15/hr and travelling expenses. The best place to advertise is on the internet, I would suggest www.gumtree.com - remember to click on "Glasgow". Also I am a Recruitment Consultant so I would be able to help you find part-time or full-time work. Glasgow has recently won awards for its culture and architecture.

I would also suggest that you don't go to England. As you can see from some of the answers, English people can be rather judgemental and rude. I would also strongly recommend that you don't go to America as they spell a lot of English words differently therefore pronounce them incorrectly.

Don't go to Glasgow, it won't improve your English, the Scots accent is too strong. Also Glasgow, or anywhere in Scotland for that matter, is not as hospitable and friendly as other parts of the UK. (Why not the USA, just as cheap once you've paid your fare).

you couldn't work part time and be able to afford rent.....you would have to work full time................flats in glasgow can be expensive unless you share with other people.......you could find work in bars and restaurants easily...........or call centres that need italian speakers......as for improving your english.....you don't have to be in England to learn english like the person before said.........we may have a different dialect but we still speak the same language............COME TO SCOTLAND, YOU WILL LOVE IT.
