I think it was Plato that said that if God did not exist there would have been a need to create one. The human mind needs to explain things because things that are unexplainable are frightening. Some argue that the creation of Gods by early man was a means to alleviate this fear of the unknown. A means to explain the lightning in the sky or the destructive explosion of a volcano. The idea that there is a supreme being that created all things and can control everything around us and maybe even perhaps help us in our times of need is a very comforting thought.
And by the way how do you know, with absolute certainty that a God does not exist? Making an assumption about something that cannot be known with absolute certainty can be a double edged sword. It puts you in the same position as those who assume the opposite as you.

Well, I believe God exists, but if He doesn't, then the "fringe benefit" is having a workable model for how the world works. It works then as a way to conceptualize reality, which is otherwise hard to conceptualize. It would be the same benefit as saying something like "The sun rises" even though the sun does not technically rise. Even though false, the statement serves a purpose. It describes very well how things SEEM. It gives us a way we can communicate an idea, a perception of reality (even if it is not the actual reality).

What is the fringe in that you are real? Your material body appeared and will disappear some time in the future. What is the substance on you? You believe only whatever is from in limited and imperfect senses like your eyes, and in your own limited experimental knowledge. What is the benefit? When you die, everything is finished, dying like cats and dogs, without inquiring about the Absolute Truth.

One of the benefits is the increase in wisdom from interacting with God. Another is learning more about people from following God's leading while interacting with others. Of course, since you think God doesn't exist it would be difficult for you to appreciate the benefits.

There are no benefits to believing in a non-existent god, but if you believe in the real God, you can experience inner peace and joy.

None. God, however, is real. god is not. There is only one true God and He is The Creator of everything and He is Sovereign in His Holiness. Any other entity that is given some kind of deified status is spelled with a little g since they are truly non-existent.

There are no fringe benefits for not believing in God. The only benefit I've found is in Jesus Christ. He died and resurrected for my sins.

social order, less crime, santity of the home, family values, less unwanted pregnancies, more citizens helping the needy that welfare won't or anyone, more environmental concern, more people who really get along socially or learn to because they have to participate in group functions in church, a solid work ethic, the decrease your taxes because of their social benevolence monies cover what welfare won't. Less people getting into trouble, some people are detered from doing something they would regret, a balance of power against those who would rather live lawlessly, My gosh I could go on...People changed from lives of crime to respectable jobs, addicts breaking addictions, homeless are helped, orphanages, missionary hospitals helping in the most deplorable places, christian institutions bringing food and education, clothing, hope into underdeveloped countries, a message of hope for hopeless people, strength for the weak, peace for the stressed which will reduce doctor visits and the price of healthcare. do you want more?

Presumably there is a feel-good factor, though I can't say I've ever been very impressed by that. Intellectual integrity is preferable to wishful thinking, as far as I'm concerned.
