D. Use open ended questions. This allows for indirect questioning, encouraging people to 'talk' about issues.
However, in order for parents to start talking, TRUST must be established first.

All of the above but use d to start with. Open ended questions will encourage them to speak without forcing them to completely open up. They will feel more comfortable in time and will eventually start to speak up more and more and may start to discuss their feelings without being prompted.

If a parent is truly concerned, in love with, and worried about their child, there shouldn't be any variables to why they shouldn't talk about their child's health, or their own for that matter.
