Good question that bothers most everyone because we all want to know what happens when we die - do we go to heaven and is there really a hell? As a Christian, I believe what the Word of God says and that we will spent eternity in heaven with Jesus. Animals do not have souls, so they do not go to heaven.
The Bible also talks about a place called Sheoul (Hell) where there is hot burning fire and gnashing of teeth - a place for those who are not saved (do not receive Christ as Lord and Savior).
Don't just ask, "do we really go to heaven" but ask, "am I ready to go to heaven?" Have you have accepted Christ as Lord and Savior? The decision is yours!
I made this decision a long time ago and I have no regrets whatsoever, even if I should die tomorrow and find that heaven does not exist (which I doubt) as I have lived a good life. I would have lost nothing but what if I am right and there is a "hell" ????

THESE are questions that people have thought about for thousands of years. They are important questions. No matter who we are or where we live, the answers concern each one of us. What the Bible really teaches help us to see clearly 'what do you think lies after death?'
(2 Tim. 3:16, 17)
So what happens at death is no mystery to our Creatour, [Jehovah] of the brain. He knows the truth, and in his Word, the Bible, he explains the condition of the dead. Its clear teaching is this: When a person dies, he ceases to exist. Death is the opposite of life. The dead do not see or hear or think. Not even one part of us survives the death of the body. We do not possess an immortal soul or spirit.
After Solomon observed that the living know that they will die, he wrote: “As for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all.” He then enlarged on that basic truth by saying that the dead can neither love nor hate and that “there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in [the grave].” (Ecclesiastes 9:5, 6, 10) Similarly, Psalm 146:4 says that when a man dies, “his thoughts do perish.” We are mortal and do not survive the death of our body. The life we enjoy is like the flame of a candle. When the flame is put out, it does not go anywhere. It is simply gone.
Jesus Christ spoke about the condition of the dead. He did so with regard to Lazarus, a man whom he knew well and who had died. Jesus told his disciples: “Lazarus our friend has gone to rest.” The disciples thought that Jesus meant that Lazarus was resting in sleep, recovering from an illness. They were wrong. Jesus explained: “Lazarus has died.” (John 11:11-14) Notice that Jesus compared death to rest and sleep. Lazarus was neither in heaven nor in a burning hell. He was not meeting angels or ancestors. Lazarus was not being reborn as another human. He was at rest in death, as though in a deep sleep without dreams. Other scriptures also compare death to sleep. For example, when the disciple Stephen was stoned to death, the Bible says that he “fell asleep.” (Acts 7:60) Similarly, the apostle Paul wrote about some in his day who had “fallen asleep” in death.—1 Corinthians 15:6.
In conclusion, knowing the truth about Death is Benificial. Thus what the Bible teaches about the condition of the dead is comforting. As we have seen, the dead do not suffer pain or heartache. There is no reason to be afraid of them, for they cannot harm us. They do not need our help, and they cannot help us. We cannot speak with them, and they cannot speak with us.
Many religious leaders falsely claim that they can help those who have died, and people who believe such leaders give them money. But knowing the truth protects us from being deceived by those who teach such lies.

I think we go to Heaven. Pretty poor waste of time if there is nothing after death.
And the animals you have loved and have loved you should be there, too. If God knows when the smallest bird falls from a tree, then I can't see Him keeping animals out of Heaven. I mean, there should be plenty of room for everyone, right?
We all have to believe something, even if it is to believe nothing exists after death. The belief in itself keeps us sane. But nobody can be sure what lies ahead. It has got to be better than our life at present, wouldn't you agree?

Where we go after death depends on a combination of what we deserve and what we desire. But never was there a time that we did not exist nor in the future will we ever cease to be. There are situations we can be born into where there is more opportunity for happiness, godliness and gratification of the senses or less. We earn our next situation according to our actions in our present situation. Animals, because they are of lower consciousness and act on instinct, are not held accountable for their actions and follow a natural evolvement to a higher species and eventually to a human birth where they do have free will to make choices. It's kind of like with choice comes responsibility.

Man will go to Heaven because man has a soul.
The Bible never speaks of God breathing a living soul into animals. And animals were not an object of Christ's death on the cross.

There are TWO deaths:
1st. When your two spiritual parts of you leave this old clay envelope we are in.
2nd. The WORD of God is sharper than any two edge sword separating even the spirit from the soul.
Dust returns to dust. Spirit returns to God who gave it. That leaves the Soul (mind). If the mind is re-born by the Word, it goes with the spirit. If not, it is in eternity without God. Some call this Hell ( I would ).
As far as the animals, I believe God has a good place provided for them.

Eternal life. Either in heaven or in hell. Where you go, depends on you. If you believe what the bible says, then you will understand the immortality of the soul. Animals don't have souls, therefore, when they die, it's the end. Man was created in God's image. Not animals.

There is a place where God is and a place where He is not. The latter place is called Hell. I don't know about the animals.
To live a proper good moral life I need Gods guidance or direction because I make the wrong choices by myself without His help. That is why many people ask God into their lives. If I make the wrong choices and do evil things then I will end up in a place without God. I don't want that to happen. Imagine ending up in a place where you have to live with people you don't like FOREVER!
The Bible is a good place to start where God reveals truths to us. It is a good read too. I started with The first gospels of The New Testament-Mathew, Mark, Luke and John.
The way to avoid going to hell is for us to repent of our sins and ask God into our lives.
