It would have to be either Bruce Lee, or Jackie Chan. Bruce Lee is probably one of the foremost masters of any martial art in history. Many would describe him as THE "Mozart" of martial arts. If you don't understand what that means I will put it this way, a person of Bruce Lee's talent and skill only comes around every few centuries if we're lucky. So, for this very obvious reason, Bruce would be my first choice.
However, since the question didn't specify living or dead, my second (living) choice would be Jackie Chan. Not necessarily because I think he is the best martial artist in the world right now, but because he is my favorite (living) martial artist. Jackie Chan not only has an incredible amount of skill and martial knowledge, but also a kind and interesting personality. I have more respect for a kindhearted person of any level of skill, than a jerk who is peerless in his/her craft.

Well the Rangers did a pretty good job, but if I had to chose just one instructor I would have to go with Karo Parysian or Pat Miletich.
I sure as heck wouldn't go with Vann Damm, Steven Segal, Jet Li, or Jackie Chan... those guys are not self defense instructors... they're actors...

Brandon Lee, I wouldnt be able to understand Bruce, and Brandon just seemed to be the coolest guy who knew martial arts, but didnt really do purely martial art movies. He was an actor who knew a kick *** form of martial arts.
