We have just moved into a house to find the previous owners dog poo has not been cleaned frm the back lawn for about 6 months! We need the garden for our young children and so cannot simply dig it up and pave it. Any ideas on how we can get over this problem?

Dog pooh will naturally degrade. Fresh pooh takes about 2/3 weeks usually.

Water the garden area to help this process.

If this is not fast enough, rake the area gather the mess and put it in the com-poster.

Then water the area and cut the grass after 3 days, water again and cut again every week for 3 weeks.

It should then be fine for your kids to play on.

Before answering this could somebody who is on AOL please report Jessica Rabbit or whatever her stupid name is for spamming? Yahoo don't seem able to do anything about this spambot, or they don't care. Surely AOL don't allow their service to be abused like this.

Well, I'd go along with re-turfing - but you should have some legal redress. If you are renting, the landlord should have fixed the garden up before you moved in; see the tenancy tribunal in your area. If you bought, the vendor is legally obliged to clean up before selling. See your lawyer in that case. You should at least recoup the cost of a new lawn, which will be quite high. Good luck.

I think it will need to be re-turfed. Sorry. Even if you cleaned up what you could see, there would still be lots left that has been rain sodden and can't be "got at". Our dog won't poo anywhere but on our garden (rescue dog who was shut out) and we have to ban our daughter from the garden. It's disgusting and I hate it, so I sympathise with you.

Just rake it all up and then just keep mowing the grass for about 2 months it should be alright then.

Pick-up all the poop and spray the lawn with disinfectant mixed with a green grow product.

first of all dog poop would have disapppeared from rain water after 6 months.. so,,in any case,, start scooping... this isnt a big deal...... once the grass grows,, start mowing...

rake the dogs mess off, then you will have to returf it, there would be too much risk letting your children play on grass with the remains of all that dog mess on it.
