It is a civil matter! Take him to Court. You should be able to get his name from the loan institution. But, even if you win in Court, it will be left up to you to collect. The Court does not do the collecting of the rewards. You may have to hire a Collection Agency. So it may be cheaper to pay him and get your car before he takes claim of it.

Have you contacted an attorney? Usually you can speak with one without cost to you. It is worth considering a pre-paid legal service as well. It comes in handy. From my understanding since his name is not on the title he is not entitled to the vehicle, and he is only entitled to the actual amount you owe him. Get a cashiers check for the amount owed and take it to him. Make sure he has it in the parking lot.FIRST AND FOR MOST GET LEGAL ADVICE. IT'S USUALLY A PHONE CALL AWAY. Open up the phonebook and start calling attorneys. In the area I live some lawyers will pick up the phone with you in the office and work to resolve the issue. Have someone go with you as well. Perferrrably a man, i.e husband, father, brother. Someone with a strong personalty. God' Blessings

need more details, to answer better, I'd look at small claims court from what you have said
better idea is to go to a web site that can have real lawyers answer your questions
