There have already been black and African popes. After the fall of Rome and then with the Islamic conquest of North Africa contact between Europe and African Christian communites was more difficult, so it became harder for an african bishop to make a name for himself.

Pope Victor I was the first African pope, but he was probably not a black man. He was from North Africa. His important contribution was setting the date of Easter that Christians use today. Pope Miltiades was the second. He is shown to be quite dark in paintings.

Anyways, you have to keap in mind that Pope is the title given to the Bishop of Rome. Since ROme is an Italian city, it is very common for its Bishop to also be from Italy. Most of the Popes have been. 45 of the last 47.

There are black Cardinals so no reason why there couldn't be a black Pope. In fact it was a strong possibility just this last election.

NO. It is not possible till the devil called RACIST is alive. Between Whites and Blacks it is still very much alive. Only a white pope has to come forward to eradicate this disease and make a black as pope in his place. Then there is a chance. -
