Yummm....Dutch Apple Pie!
You are so right. No matter what we say about any group, there will be some in that group who don't fit what we are saying. So it is a good reminder that we should say "Some."

Cherry pie, unless the apple pie has a slice of melted cheddar cheese on it.
Because generalizations, in general, are TRUE. There is a reason why we have statistics, yes? What we should do instead is say "why do SOME atheists, why do SOME christians,...." etc etc.
here's a coke to go with your pie.

Like I've said before. People are up tight. They can't just say, "I don't, but here's why they do."
Oh, and Cherry. I LOVE cherry pie. Unless mom made the apple. She makes good apple pie.

I hear you. I like answering those questions based on the stereotypes they seem to allready have (by asking that question.) I am a firm believer in Christ, and even if I hear (read) something on the internet from here, it is not going to stop me from going to church or believing in God, or Jesus as my salvation.
My problem is the responses I have gotten just by them emailing me and harrassing me because of my answer. How tacky is that, harrassing someone because of what they believe?
People who ask or answer here should lighten up a little and understand there is a world out there beyond their computer screen......I bet you anything those people who have emailed me based on my Christian answers would say nothing to someone in person. Very cowardly, ducking behind their computer screens to say what they want........

I agree. Questions that begin with "Why do..." are usually generalizations.
Apple pie with crumb topping served warm from the oven. You are making me hungry tonight!
EDIT: To Last Ent Wife. Thanks for making me a contact. I was about to return the favor but you just turned me off with your apple pie and cheese. Yuck! LOL

Because you'll get bogged down if you continually try to be totally specific. Stereotypes are referred to because "Birds of a feather flock together", thus stereotypes form.
Totally apple. Boo cherry.

people arent stupid. therefore we notice trends and patterns in others and stereotype a certain set of people that fit those certain patterns. its simple science. maybe stereotypes dont always play out but something about a stereotype is true. just like every myth has an ounce of truth in in. same for stereotypes and generalizations.

Pumpkin Pie.
Yeah, I learned that the hard way, if you do not put (Some) in there, people won't answer your question instead they beat their chests about how you are generalizing their comrades.

yes I hate to see generalisations
yet I have been found guilty on this one also in the past
I am quick to correct myself when I do though , and am becoming more aware of doing it
so I try to say " some " now
because each and every person is different and should be treated as such
and cherry please !
