The democrats in congress do not want to leave Iraq. Look at their track record: It took them two months to launch a bill designed to do absolutely nothing. Then they had to buy votes for a bill the President promised to veto, and managed to eek out a 0.6% majority.

And the democrats in congress have no reason want us out of Iraq. It's given them so much. They barely had to campaign in 2006. They just said, "I don't like war," and people blindly voted for them. They didn't even have to discus any other issues. As long as they can keep us in Iraq, all they have to do is say, "I don't like war," and enough of they supporters will believe that to keep them going.

Don't you find it rather convenient that the arbitrary deadline is set up right before the next general election. If Iraq is stable by then, they're say, "Look what we did for you." and liberals will blindly vote for them. If it's not stable at that point, and we get shot in the back on the way out, they'll say, "Look how the President let the terrorists kill all of those poor people." And liberals will blindly vote for them.

The democrats have no reason to want us out of Iraq. Constituents, you say? As long as the democrats can keep their liberal constituents hating republicans, they've got it made. They get elected without doing any real work.

The Democrats don't gain by getting out of Iraq, other than on a personal level. Being able to campaign against an unpopular war which began under a Republican president makes it much, much easier for Democrats.

The democratic party is too deeply invested in defeat to be able to survive a victory in Iraq. We we win in Iraq - they lose all of their credibility.

No. Saying "it's just for political reasons" is an easy but hollow way to try to discredit someone's argument, instead of looking at the argument itself. I'm not saying some of them aren't jumping on the anti-war bandwagon. But just as many, probably more, are honestly concerned about the human lives being lost without any clear game plan ahead of us.

If you mean they are doing this because most of the American people want this than yes. It's an electoral gain alright. The citizens of the US want this, how could they stand to lose when they choose to stand with the majority.

Yes, because truly, we owe it to Iraq to win this war and stabilize it after discovering that there were no weapons.

I do not know of very many politicians that do anything, if it is not for electoral gain.

Yep, because when the going gets tough, they put their tails between their legs and take a run for it.
