Webster says: Religion is: " a personal set of religipous beliefs or practices", "a cause, principle, or BELIEF held to with faith and ardor"
So, if that is the case, then it IS a form of BELIEF!
Therefore, is not ATHEISM a religion because people BELIEVE that way?
I beleive it is! The dictionary tells us what BELIEFS are,.and gives us our meanings and definitions of these words we use to define our lives and world.
Then, we must go with WEBSTER!!

No, atheism is not a religion. A religion is a set of beliefs and usually contains some rituals and specific morals etc., but the only thing all atheists have in common is the belief that there is no god. Apart from that they can have completely different beliefs and options on everything else, so they are not really anything like a religion.
Atheism is simply the absence of theism and at the same time the absence of religion. Atheism is a single belief (the belief that there is no god), not a religion.

A religion requires you to believe something on faith. Atheism is the absence of belief in these things, so atheism should not be considered a religion. On your survey, "none" is more correct.

No way should it be classed as a religion. I always tick the box that says no religion because thats what i have, no religion. As an atheist i have no affiliation with any religious practises, rituals or traditions, although i appreciate my public holidays such as good friday and xmas!! (Thanks).
Also, to the answerer that said something about pagan beliefs - i am not a pagan, i don't believe in any form of higher being, superstitions etc. I believe we are born, we live, we die. That is it. I don't believe in fate or destiny, or horoscopes or astrology.
I believe in nothing except that fact that i exist, therefore i am.

Atheism is a religious belief but not a religion. It's also theology (defined as "having an opinion about God and expressing it in some way"), but doesn't make atheists theologians.

I agree that none of them are religions. I disagree approximately theism and atheism being philosophies in spite of the indisputable fact that, they're purely labels for concept/disbelief in god(s). i think of deism could be considered to be a philosophy counting on how that's defined.

If someone belongs to a Pagan religion, then that's their religion. If someone does not believe in God and does not belong to any religion.. in other words, True Blue atheism - then no, these people should not be considered to belong to any religion.

Not really, unless atheists have some sort of ritual they go through in their non-belief of God.
There is an atheist church in Dallas. I don't know what they do there.
