The Helen of Troy Gold Hair Straightener. You can find it at Sally Beauty Supply. It's about $30, and it's fantastic. If you dry your hair--or let it air dry (it doesn't matter, the straightener will do all the work)--put in some Hair Wax (your best bet is Paul Mitchell Wax Works, but use SPARINGLY! A teensy bit goes a long, long way!), and then straighten 1 inch sections of hair. Your hair will be super straight. I went skiing after I did this, and landed in the snow, and sweat because I was warm, and my hair was straight and frizz free. For a girl who's hair frizzes at the slightest hint of humidity, it's a godsend!

I also straighten my hair everyday. What i usually do is make sure everytime i straighten my hair i use a heat protection spray. I find my hair stays looking great all day. You can find these heat protection sprays in places like boots the chemist, hairdressers or just a normal chemist.

Try applying mousse before you straighten your hair. Mousse would not be greasy and after its dried, it would be able to control your hair. Also, mousse would not let your hair look stiff.
However, if your hair has natural curls, then you might want to consider rebonding. It'll definitely straighten out every little curl.

Some great answers here. I really like the one by BuTtErFlY and the 'arisol' spray.
