If I were in the house and saw a loaded weapon, I'd unload it. Especially if I was there for a reason the homeowner may not be completely happy with. Why give them the thought of an opportunity?

Old Fuzz hit the nail on the head, as he usually does. It is about officer safety. I do not care if you normally have a gun in your home and it is ready to go. I actually commend you. However, if I come near or in your house I want to know several things. Is there anyone else there. Are there weapons in the house. Are there weapons near you or on you. Where are the exits. There are other things depending on the call. These are what I always look at. Now what do we expect? We expect that everyone is going to try and hurt us or kill us. Everyone hates us. If we didn't expect that we couldn't be safe.

Do you have any idea as to the number of little children that have shoot their brother or sister with the gun they found in the home?
They did what they see on TV not realizing that they have KILLED their sibling!
Do you know how many so called adults have shoot a family member during a heated argument?
Do you want people shooting when they think they are threatened or do you want the police to be the authority?
No other country on earth has so many guns in the household and no other country has as many violent crimes with guns as America.

Unless they are planning to use the gun at some point soon, it is called being smart. Children could get their hands on it and die or cause a death. Smart gun owners never have the bullets and the guns in the same location. Safety first.
But then again there are the drug dealers, who are protecting themselves and their drugs. They could shoot a cop if the gun isn't empty.
Just plain common sense!

This a stupid question any gun that is not in the cops hand is a threat to them and they do not treat it lightly. They don't know what to expect that's the reason get it!

Let's see, I get called to your house because your violent drunken husband is beating the snot out of you again. First question I ask is, "Are there any guns in the house?" I do that because I do not want to be shot by your violent drunken husband. Nor do I want to be shot by YOU when I arrest your violent drunken husband.
It's an "officer safety" thing.

Because a child could get into it and the next thing you know, you have a dead child in your arms.
Also, if they're searching around for something, if a loaded gun is hidden somewhere, and they pull around, they run the risk of pulling the trigger and seriously hurting themselves or someone else.
It's simple logic.

The main reason would be kids and accidents. A loaded weapon is an argument carried to far waiting to happen.

Because it can be used incorrectly at any given time. And if there is children in the home it makes them antsy that a child might accidently shoot themselves or someone else.
They are just being cautious.
