You would need a converter of some sort and a transformer, to change DC to AC and to step up from 12 volts to 115.
I would check with auto parts stores or anyone who supplies parts for RVs. I would think it possible to make the conversion for less than $100 to $200 if you don't want a lot of electrical output. If you need a lot of amps you might want to look into getting a generator and that would run a lot more.

What you're looking for is called a power inverter. The price varies wildly depending on how much power needs to be available for the 115-volt device. You can find small inverters that plug into your cigarette lighter for under $20, or huge inverters for hundreds of dollars that need to be directly wired to your battery with very large cables. You'll need to figure out the current draw of the device you want to plug in (should be labeled on the device) and pick an inverter size to match.

Radio shack will be happy to sell you an "inverter" for 12VDC to 120VAC. So will e-bay. An inverter is what you are looking for. Cost will depend on the power you need. Also, be careful about the application you have in mind. Some inverters put out a pretty dirty AC, full of noise that will annoy TV and Audio equipment. Just ask if it is appropriate to your intended use.

you can buy one for 20$ usd at walmart that plugs right into your cigarette lighter. I use mine to recharge my digital camera on vacations. There are fancier versions that go fo 50-100$ and run off the battery/hard wired. and can run anything up to a hair dryer.
