I noted that 246 drivers a day are being fined £60 and gained three points on their licence since the new rules became law,

Notable cases in the past month included:

Strathclyde Police Chief Superintendent Kenny Scott, 50, was caught by his own colleagues as he drove on the M74 while off duty.

Keith Pemberton, 29, was fined £60 for eating a cheese and pickle sandwich behind the wheel by police on the A49 in Warrington, Cheshire.

A Cleveland driving instructor was fined for using his phone while directing a learner driver.

While I never have used my phone while driving, (I'm a man, I can't multitask), do you think it's going a bit far to be fined for eating a cheese and pickle sandwich?

Cheese and Pickle sandwich YES! using a phone whilst driving is just stupid, if it's not an important call, then wait till you've finished the journey, if it IS important, then find a safe place, and pull over, SIMPLE!

Anyone eating a cheese and pickle sandwich whether driving at the time or not deserves to be fined. Now a bologna and cheese sandwich would be a different story.

Yes! Everything is going mad these days! lol and a driving instructor being fined? But he's not driving! The only thing he can do is use his feet or his right hand to change gears or pull handbrake! If someone is self-employed, they may need to take the phone call - my driving instructor did and it didn't do me any harm - I passed first time with only 3 minors!! lol

Anything which distracts you from driving is dangerous ! We all know that in a fraction of a second, something or someone can be in front of your car! I see people everyday struggling to drive straight or turn corners because the've got a mobile resting under their chin ! Use hands free or turn it off !

thats way too far, half the time when people crash and they've been talking on a cell phone is when they're speeding so if you keep below the speed limit you should be fine
