Does anyone else have a cat that does this?

She literally will NOT eat her food or drink her water unless there's something weird floating in it. Earlier this morning, she put a piece of styrofoam in her water. And she puts all kinds of weird stuff in her food.

This sounds like an instinctive predatory behavior. Some cats like to bat/play with their "prey". In this instance I'm guessing that she has associated her food with being prey.

Try keeping some fresh ice-cubes in her water bowl.

She will be able to bat around and play with the ice-cubes and it will be a harmless way of satisfying her needs as well as soothing your worries that she may be putting hazardous stuff into her water bowl.

Be observant to the things she is putting in her bowl, and make sure that she can't get a hold of anything that may be deemed hazardous.

I'm not really sure how to make the food more exciting, but perhaps someone else on the board may have a few suggestions.

You can also help to eliminate this problem, by providing her with extra toys and playtime activities.

~Hope this helps

My cats do the exact same thing except with mine they put colorful catnip mice and my hairbands in the water and food dishes.

I just interpret to mean that the cats just want their favorite play toys to have some food and drink. Nothing more. They eventually grow out of it. Though occasionally I catch them sticking their paws in and creating a big mess with the water.

Welcome to the wonderful world of cat ownership. Seriously though, my two cats both do the same thing. They will eat their dry food over the water bowl and drop pieces in, then dig around with their paws trying to get it. They have no shortage of toys, and are played with on a daily basis, so my only assumption is they get a kick out of watching us fish things out of the food bowl, or changing the water.

Just be glad she doesn't do like my male cat, he takes a soft ball and plays fetch with me, but will take breaks to dunk the ball in the water dish so he can bring it to me all nice and soggy...

Oh, the fun of cats.

One of my cats puts those life-sized, realistically colored play mice in the water bowl, and then leaves it on the floor by the bathroom. I think she likes hearing me scream when I step on it in the middle of the night. They look and feel surprisingly real. And there's always a sponge "bally" in the food dish.

no longer hassle-free nutrition might desire to be hurting his teeth. My cats might do this periodically, then resume ingesting dry nutrition. the two way, provide him some canned nutrition and spot it which will exchange something. you may then mixture one million/2 dry, one million/2 canned for awhile. enable it take a seat for a jiffy, in any different case he will purely lick the canned nutrition off the dry morsels and discard them.

Maybe she is part racoon-they like to wash their food so your cat has the part that likes their stuff in water-even though it is not something edible. (couldn't resist).
