My friend got a Saturday detention for being tardy 6 times in 1 quarter. She is in the 7th grade and is really smart. It is her dream to go to Harvard. But now she is so sad because this one kid told her she cant make it because she will have that Saturday detention in her record. He also said when the college looks at it they will turn her down. Now my friend is all freaked out and really put down.

IS ALL THIS TRUE ABOUT WHAT THE BOY SAID TO HER? DOES 6 TARDIES COUNT THAT MCUH?

colleges are going to look at her academic record rather than her detention record.
Another thing, they really don't look at anything until you're in high school anyway.

Well it will probably be on a record as the government begans a new program in the last 5 years where all attendance, punishments, and grades are kept from kindergarten on in public schools ( some school have records right online for parents to look at for attendance and grades)
However colleges are only concerend with 3 things generally. 1. your grade point average (GPA) this is the average of your grades during highschool
2. Your SAT scores (or ACT depending on the college) these are tests you take in your hoighschool years and cover everything you learned in highscool to see if you actually memorized it.
and
3. how much money you have. Because well, colleges and universities are businesses and they want to make money.

The more competitive a school's admission process is the more of a difference it will make. Also, the more often it's repeated the bigger a difference it will make.

But one time in 7th grade isn't going to be too detrimental. She should start planning to continue the good grades and get active in the extra curricular programs if she really wants Harvard, though. The more she has to offer the student body the more likely she'll get in.

Tell your friend not to worry, she will be accepted or declined on her academic merits. Just tell her not to keep up her tardiness throughout high school. She needs to be more punctual.

Grades are more important than behavior when you're looking to go to college.

no, you could go to detention every arvo for your entire school year, and as loing as you have good grades you can make it to uni.... bad kids still get into uni. :)

its police records that make it hard to get into uni
