Simply put religious view point is hard to swallow for those with analytical minds.
The big bang theory is just as strange as believing in god. For example; with the big bang where did the energy particles come from and how did they get there? God is the same question, where did God come from? It is an eternal question of chicken and the egg.... Only it doesn't matter which side you are on, you can never be sure!
As for evolution, this makes complete sense... In the bible we read that God made everything within 6 days.... Well it's fairly obvious that he didn't something that can be clearly proved!
Humans are evolving and in 1000,000 years god knows how different we'll be. But certainly you see that our intelligence as an examples has increased exponentially since dawn of time!
Why does faith in God give us purpose? If we accept that as our answer we will never seek higher learning, belief in God in fact may be a resistance to further evolution!

Try harder to grasp the concept of coincidence. The Big Bang theory holds more water than a story about a magic invisible supernatural entity manufacturing everything out of not much at all. We, humanity, came into existence but not all in a big rush last Thursday. We exist in our present form after many many years in the research and development phase, with some prototypes being rejected. Human life has no purpose. We just are. We then decide on our own individual courses of action or inaction until we die.
Man continues to evolve. My next-door neighbours contributed to that evolution, in that they are of mixed race. Their child is a mutation. What will we evolve into? Perhaps taller, perhaps not. Perhaps longer living? Probably. Perhaps all the same skin colour? Hopefully.
Faith in a god only gives purpose to the weak-minded. Imagine, if you can, that I am right and god is a man-made invention ... all the associated nonsense attached to such a concept now collapses - no heaven, hell, angels, satan, soul, afterlife, etc, etc. All the magic and invisibility becomes obvious as a lie. Imagine that.
Reality surfaces as the only other option and reality can be hard to deal with. Yes, you will eventually die and that will be the end. Nothing more. Therefore, live this one and only life that you will get. Make the very best of it that you can. Strive to help yourself and your family and your friends with generosity, understanding and tolerance. Strive to make your corner of the world a better place by creating and not destroying (are you listening, muslims?) and, if you are able, make the whole planet a better place to be.
All this you can do without the help of an imaginary friend and the associated false promises.
Do not worry about how the universe was formed. Do not concern yourself about how life began.
Do not get wound up about how early life changed over the millenia.
Be more concerned with being a better individual, a better-educated person, a more intelligent being (yes - intelligence CAN be increased by your own application). Then, once the mind has been opened up, THEN ask questions about those subjects. Right now, your mind is not ready as it is full of religious fudge. Clear that out and make space.
You should start with this:
god is imaginary and only exists in your mind.

The reason why you find it so hard to swallow is probably one of the main reasons why you turn to a God. You ask what will man evolve into? Well if we all don't kill each other, I think our next step in evolution will be a man controlled one, implants and such, I think we have stepped out of the bounds of Natural Selection now that we have medical science to save the ones who would normally have died, plus there are no main predators of Humans.
You ask why haven't we already evolved....well that's a pretty stupid question, you say it like there is an end point of evolution where we just stop....which is very much not so.
Some people may get purpose from faith in a God, however I myself find purpose in the fact that I only have this short time to exist, and I want to make as much out of it as possible, experience and learn many new things, be creative, maybe have a family. There are many people who think this way....though not enough in my opinion.

Well, seeing faith and reason in the same sentance, supposedly complimenting each other is very distracting. But, moving on:
Not all atheists subscribe to the big bang theory. I believe we will never find a way of knowing the initial origins of anything. But, I do not need some fictional entity to fill in those gaps for me. Whatever happened, happened. We are here now, so why worry about it.
What will man evolve into? I don't know. Man has evolved over millions of years. It is a slow process, un-noticable during the present time. It takes looking at different species over long periods of time to see evolution at work. For example, people who lose a lot of weight. They see themselves everyday, so the change isn't that drastic. But, someone who hasn't seen that same person in, say, two years, the change is very drastic to them.
Finally, there really isn't any chaos that stems from un-belief. I do not believe, and my life is very well in order.

Yes, one big accident (or more precisely, a huge number of little ones) is all there is to the story -- along with natural selection to sort out the beneficial ones. The purpose of life is to make more life. Man will probably not evolve showing noticeable differences as there is no survival benefit to such changes. But the race is evolving resistance to different germs, just as the germs are evolving so as to better have you for lunch. Of course, the race has been evolving for millions of years; see last week's Newsweek for fascinating details. For details on evolution generally, see Dawkins, Unweaving the Rainbow. For a history of the evolution of life on earth, see Dawkins, The Ancestor's Tale.

It is not entirely known how single cell beings came to be. Despite this it is recognized as fact that life started as single celled organisms.
Hard to believe the big bang? Tell me one thing about it? Uhhhh yeah, maybe if you would research it you would start to understand it more. The universe is expanding, it could just as easily one day be collapsing, and when it does the sum of all energy and mass rolled into something the size of a . makes for quite an explosion, one that could send matter more than 15 billion light years away.
Man only came to be recently in the grand scheme of things, and we are going through micro evolution, but really there isn't a need for us to evolve, but there is sure room for improvement, I mean really we are the first intelligent forms of life, when it's all said and done we might be compared to bacteria.
Fiath in God does not give answers, it plugs holes. it's like putting your finger in the dam, it seems like everything's okay, but really you're just making simple answers for a complicated life.

You are right .....the concept of an old guy sitting on a cloud creating everything in a few days makes much more sense hey ??
Of course you can't create something out of nothing so the Big Bang can't be true hey ? But then by the same argument neither can your god.

So you believe that God created us exactly how we are today?
Very ignorant.
Evolution is fact, it all depends to what degree you believe in it.
For example, a nearly perfectly logical argument would be that God created the universe but thereafter had nothing to do with it.
Believing that God still uses his/her power in conducting the ways of the universe is just silly.
It's infinitely harder for me to believe that some extremely intelligent being with the ability to do basically anything, popped out of nowhere and created everything from nothing.
Now who's beliefs are illogical?
And to answer part of your question, man has been evolving and still is. We are becoming smarter and more versatile, we are creating new technology and medicinal techniques. There is a long evolutionary tree of our species. Pick up a science book or something.
There is too much evidence in support of evolution in my mind to even toy with the idea of a supreme creator. I guess everyone else is too simple-minded. :)

Hundreds of billions of planets are lifeless because the right conditions for life never occurred. And here you are, among the very few planets that can support life, grumbling about it.
Do you understand how slowly evolution happens? Do you understand how we're slowing it down even further using medical science?
Saying 'just by chance' shows you have no understanding of the forces behind the big bang, the formation of stars and planets, abiogenesis, or evolution. Please, pick up a book. Christians are allowed in libraries, I promise.

This world is a creation of your own mind. You will keep taking birth in this set-up till your imagination stops. All the so called self, mine, other self, thine are also created in same way through your mind. A complete awareness into the arising and ceasing nature of all feelings, thoughts, intelligence, analysis etc will surely reveal how it happens.
