I'm sorry if i offend some mum out there doing the same thing to their kids. I was with my 18mths boy to his checkup with the Doc this afternoon. Then a mother and grandma with their boy around the same age as mine was there. That little boy has a little cute haversack bag behind his back, with a lock infront to prevent the bag from dropping out and a really long rope was attach behind the bag. So that boy was walking around with his gradma or mum holding on the rope and pulling him back if he walks too far away. I'm sorry to say that i have only seen people doing that same thing with their dogs. This really makes me sick. Just wanna find out if there are people out who agree with me or are doing the same thing to their kids?

Nope i have never done that to my kids and yes you are so right that is sick. If that mum or the grandma can't keep track of that little one, then she should give it to someone who can and then have to have to tubes tied so that she can't have anymore kids.

I'm thinking it okay if the child is really hyper and wants to continually wonder too far.

There are so many baby snatchers these days.

Don't take your eyes off your children.

In a mall in St Louis a little girl was taken by two women working together. They took the little girl in the rest room. Changed her cloths and put a wig on her.

Thankfully this story had a good ending.

The mom told a cashier her child was missing. There was a panic button they pushed and it locked all the doors and they found the child.

Think about it before you act. There are harnesses sold in stores for children to keep them close to their mother.

When I was a baby some 60 years ago, everybody had what they called "straps" for their children, they were a harness type that fitted over the shoulders and round the waist, with a long lead attached at the back,I personally think they were a great idea, esp for these little ones who want to walk all the time and run off,it keeps them out of harms way and could avoid a nasty road accident. I am in favour of them.

No child should be kept on a leesh, I have seen it to and often wanted to ask the parent were you confused when you left the house? When asked what I mean I would respond did you mean to take your dog for a walk but without thinking hooked your son up to the dogs leesh. I am bold like that but being a dad and a nut when it comes to boardering on child abuse.

Its not uncommon. A lot of people that take their children to amusement parks do this. It gives the child a little freedom to explore without the dangers.

I have used a strap harness on my son (when he was very small) in public places like airports but using it in a small area like a doctor's office is excessive. I guess you can count your blessings that your child doesn't take off in a cloud of dust.

yep. its demeaning and belittling the child. Ropes are for dogs not children.

If the child runs away, learn how to look after/discipline/teach him not to.

A rope if a sign of poor parenting.

They will stop doing this soon, he shoul be very small, it's sadder to distract for a second and loose your child. Be sure they do this because they care about him, and are not prejudist about what people think.

Don't worry he will be fine.
