What's very important to me is that I have steady hours in my job, as close to a M-F 9-5 job as possible. (morning, evening, or graveyard shift doesn't make a difference) - but I do need steady hours.
I'm very aware that combat jobs and jobs involving going into the field are not steady at all.

My recruiter says petroleum supply specialist is steady hours, but another recruiter says it is NOT. Does anybody know?

Any suggestions for a steady hour job?

By the way, it helps to note that I qualify for any position they have.

i see some people aren't understanding my question. perhaps i didn't explain correctly.

I dont necessarily care if it's 9-5, 3-12, or whatever. The hours can be long, in hte middle of the night, it doesnt matter. I'm looking for something that is a steady schedule though, instead of random infantry schedules, one week on, three days off, two weeks on, five days off.

I know there are always exceptions, and I know PT exists, and I know things come up. But there are certainly jobs with more stable hours than others, in the Army.

No such thing. Worke schedule depends on your unit, not your MOS. You're going to work more than 8 hours a day. Here in Iraq I work 12 hours a day, 6 days a week. In the rear we go to work so we can look at each other for a while.

POL Specialist - NOT a 9-5 job.

Cook - NOT a 9-5 job (more like 3-12 or 10-6 and weekends)

ANY MOS in the Army - NOT a 9-5 job.

Trust me, with an attitude like yours, you should NOT join the Army. You will have to be up at 0530 daily for PT and then go to work for a whole day (OMG!!!). If whatever your section/squad/platoon/company/battery did that day isn't up to standard, you can easily be held "after duty hours" to get the job done. Soldiers are soldiers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

On top of all of that, you WILL have to go to the field, you WILL have to have CQ/CQ Runner/Staff Duty/SD Runner/whatever other duty that will be a 24 hour duty where you are not allowed to sleep. Oh, and you WILL have to deploy too.

The Army is not a job, it is a lifestyle. If you expect a normal work schedule, the Army isn't for you. ALL Army MOSs can be deployed, go to the field, have shift work, work weekends, work nights, and work holidays. It's just the way it is.

**EDIT** Get a MOS that is in communications, logistics, or maintenance. Those are a bit more "regular" than the rest. You can also look into Patriot MOSs as they have good bonus and not hard hours.

Sorry if I came off a bit sour, it just seemed like you were asking for everything but wanted to dedicate nothing.

My husband is a Petroleum Supply Specialist and he has steady hours. They're not 9-5 though. They're more like 7:30-5.

You need to choose another career path, there, skippy, because the US Army - or the military in general - isn't for you. The only thing constant in military life is change, and if you can't adapt to it you'll never make it.

You want steady hours, go work at Mickey D's. The military ain't what you're looking for.

Usually clerical positions. BUT keep in mind you could get assigned to a combat unit even though your MOS is primarily 9-5.
BTW, if you want a 9-5 job, why join the military?

The military pays its members a salary. Therefore you could be worked 100 hours a week and that's just the way it goes. If you get a "job" that you like the hours aren't going to matter.

CHOOSING AN MOS?? I'm older than I thought. My marine corps only let me choose to do whatever I was ordered to do.

That is not strictly true. I can remember one time when the Lieutenant asked me if I wanted to be on the fence all night tonight or tomorrow night.

Things have really gotten tough in the Army!

that job is most definitely NOT one with the steady hours that you seek. You could always be a cook
