Bose, through their huge marketing budget, cater to those who can afford to spend and splurge a bit more on an audio sound system, but don't have the time or inclination to further research their choices.

At the same time, Bose systems aren't as obtrusive as most standard A/V systems. The tiny cubes and a single "bass module" are a big selling point to people who find stacks of black boxes and massive tower speakers ugly. (I happen to think they make the room!)

And the fact of the matter is, is that Bose systems don't necessarily sound bad. But they are WAY OVER PRICED for what they are. Relatively cheap materials and components are pretty common place in the Bose world.

I just hate to see uninformed people buy Bose stuff with out doing a bit of research, and just assuming it's the Rolls Royce of audio equipment.

The thing is, most of their oblivious customers are happy with their purchases. And why not? Compared to the speakers built into their TVs, I'm sure that those Bose speakers sound FANTASTIC! It just that for the same amount of money, it could sound SO MUCH better!

BOSE - Bring Other Sound Equipment. Like everyone else has aleady said its just a lot of clever marketing, they have created this impression in everyones minds that they have a superior product. And like your example of the old guy in the store, if he was subject to a blind audition between your other brands and the bose system he wouldnt choose the bose, he is just arrogant enough to believe the marketing hype, and without comparing the bose system to anything else it probably sounds ok, especially when in the back of his uneducated mind he thinks these are bose, they must be good. I like the format of the bose cubes, they look good and take up no room, but in my lounge room I have JBL Control in walls.

Bose spends millions of dollars advertising their products claiming they have better sound than the competition. They design their equipment for aesthetic appeal which people like because they they don't want large boxes cluttering up their room. When potential buyers audition Bose speakers ,they are usually hooked up to very expensive equipment which is tailored for the speakers to give an impression of a huge sound stage with bright treble and thunderous bass ,But not much mid range where most of the music comes from.Word of mouth gets around and people are brainwashed into believing Bose is "awesome"
Bose may be"awesome" but i would think twice before buying their speakers which use paper cones for their drivers and thin plastic panels for their enclosures.
The cost of their products are highly inflated and you can get much better equipment for half the price of Bose.

Bose (no hi's, no lows, must be BOSE!) products are for the over educated who do not have time to do actual research, or heaven forbid, actually listen to the speakers with your own ears. What they do is buy the most advertised/expensive audio product that they know of.

[edit] Opinions about Bose
A market study published in March 2006 by the independent market research firm Forrester Research reported that Bose's brand name was among the most trusted (by the US population) of consumer-electronics or computer brand names.[25]

In 1968, Amar Bose presented a classic paper to the Audio Engineering Society entitled: "On the Design, Measurement and Evaluation of Loudspeakers" available from the AES at a small charge. (See: Audio Engineering Society site [26]). Following the logic in this paper, Bose Corporation has endeavored to strike an economic balance between cost and performance to provide high quality as judged by the average listener whose criteria of quality include faithful reproduction of the listener's experience in a live performance, i.e. a dominance of the reverberant sound field in the listening space, ie. a typical home enviornment. (see audiophile beleifs) Those whose main listening experience has been reproduced sound as opposed to live performances, i.e. loudspeaker-sound, often find the sound produced by Bose systems lacking, in particular in the directional high freqencies produced by many expensive speaker systems with tweeters mounted in forward-facing baffles that assure considerable directionality of the higher frequencies. For those listeners, Bose systems will not appeal and they should not, and largely do not, own them.[27]

Bose is widely regarded as a producer of high-end audio systems [28][29][30][31][32][33]. It has been reported by at least one reviewer, that whilst most people view Bose as a producer of "high-end" products, that some people do not hold the opinion that Bose is a producer of high-end audio systems, because in his opinion it dosn't fufill their expectations of what a high-end system should be[34

First of all, your question is immediately biased. But, there are definitely a group of people that think Bose is amazing. Everyone's ears are different. Bose's selling point is "big sound in small box", and they do deliver, but it is no comparison to an actual speaker box that uses physical harmonics to produce sound, as opposed to electronics to fake the appearance of sound.

Ultimately, Bose people like it because of its small footprint, and they accept the Bose sound because it fits their small footprint needs so well.

People who deeply care about sound appreciate other brands of speakers. Frankly, Bose only caters to small footprint people, as rock, metal, classical, jazz, etc etc etc all sound better on other speaker types.

Regarding salesmen - been there, done that; he was trying to push Bose because he might have gotten a SPIF (bonus) for selling them, or they just turn a higher profit. When I sold audio I went for the speakers without any electronics, because they're cheap to make, cost nothing to research (Bose spends TON$ on research which factor into the high cost), and ultimately produce a higher profit even if the sales total was less than Bose. Figure 70% profit margin and normal speakers compared to 50% on Bose.

Anyway, you're right. Keep it up.

properly, like yet another answer reported, in case you prefer to spend alot of money on a sturdy gadget... forget approximately Bose. in case you purely prefer to electrify acquaintances, purchase Bose and desire they are deaf. in case you prefer something that truthfully sounds sturdy, decide for a real audio type. (Bowers and Wilkens, JBL, Klipsch, AudioEngine, and so on, and so on ,and so on. BTW, those are purely get right of entry to point type names... and that they are nonetheless extra ideal than Bose)

That's the power of advertising, my friend. Just like some people believe that a GMC pickup (built on the same line as the Chevy Silverado) is "Professional Grade".
