my Grandfather celebrated 85 years this year, on Feb. 13. he was also near the end of his 10 year fight with bone cancer. he always told us, " i don't need anything, just get me a card and come visit." so, this year we gave him a card shower. my aunt put a notice in the paper so all his friends and old co-workers would know. then all the family was notified, we all put our fondest memories of him in our cards. his b-day was his last day out of bed. the whole family came to see him. he passed 2 weeks later and my mom and her sister took care of him till the last breath. he loved having his cards read to him. they lasted till the last day. then some of them were read at his funeral.
that was probably more info than you wanted but the story explains how touching the card shower was. and no matter the health situation of the elderly, they don't usually want much beyond what they need, and the cards bring back so many fond memories and my Grandpa smiled through the pain listening to them.

I don't think your dad will mind what you give him. Give him a hug or kiss on the cheek to show your love.
A card and maybe a picture of a really memorable moment with your dad in a nice picture frame.

It's not the gift that's important but the love you show him. That's what will make him happy and it's what you will always remember!
