Generally with chemical Eng the Pay is high. I would depend on who you are going to work for and where you are situated. Chemical Eng has to do with the augmentation of chemicals to better human life. So in a way you would use nature to better human life.

The pay is very hard. So is the subject matter. I hear that it's the hardest one. But opportunities right now are very good because of the high price of oil and pharmaceuticals. But you better REALLY like chemistry and physics and math, because otherwise you won't make it through if you're just thinking about all the money you'll make.

The best career to purse is the one you are most happy with. The money will come. If you are unhappy with your job, even though you make a lot of money, you will still be unhappy. Seek your happyness first.

Assuming you're American, try to find a way to work for yourself. Companies sqeeze the life out of engineers, then toss them to the curb. If you're Indian, then move to the US after you get your degree. American companies will be happy to help you get a visa so you can help squeeze the life out of their US engineers.
