My boyfriend and I have a long distance relationship (he lives in Australia and I live in Colorado) and he wants me to wear a promise ring. Will that help me to not get hit on as much? Should I have him wear one, too?

Promise rings are a silly, cowardly attempt to commit.

If you want a real promise, wear an engagement ring. Otherwise, send it back and tell him that you'd rather have earrings.

I think first and foremost you both need to identity the symbolic meaning of exchanging promise rings with each other.
Wearing a promise ring is basically a pledge between you and ya love one, the pre-engagement ring which expresses commitment to the relationship and a promise for the future together.
It's by no means a strong deterrent to shoo off potential suitors. Though many guys would take the hint and not hit on you as opposed to you not wearing any band on ya fingers.

So long that you are not legally married (in my opinion married too these days... ) it's possible for any guys to woo you. Only if one allows it to happen...

So I believed what's important is, be it whether you wear any promise rings or not... have you come to terms with yourself and ya desire to totally commit yourself to your bf and resolved to stay faithful to your long distance love.
So long you embrace your love with sincerity... you will naturally and tactfully deliver right physical and verbal messages to any would-be suitors that you are no longer available.

Best of luck in your love life! Cheers!

I think promise rings are silly. They're promises of a promise. They're a promise that you'll get engaged (which is just a promise that you'll bond together for the rest of your lives). I wear my grandma's old engagement ring and my late Aunt's wedding band on my left hand (there's a problem with my right finger, so i have to) and i still get hit on. Lots of guys don't have morals anymore, so i'm not sure the number of times you get hit on will be less... but i bet it would be nice to have, as a reminder of him.

Hmm, I dont know if it would stop you from getting hit on so much, because promise rings dont usually look like wedding bands, or engagement rings.

If hes willing to wear it then I say go for it. But promise rings are something you give eachother. If he wants you to wear one, hes suppose to go out and buy it and then make a promise to be faithful to you.

Yeah long distance relationships never go as they want to. If you have to wear a promise ring then he should have to wear one too. But still you can always take it off. I think you guys should move on as friends.

A promise ring is more symbolic than anything else. He just wants you to wear it as a sign of your promise to be committed to him. I don't think that it will keep you from being hit on at all. I see no harm in him wearing one, also, especially if it is a mutual decision.

I think so...i think that promise ways are great ways to show how much you love someone and that you want to be with them for along time (if not forever). Many people do think that promise rings are alot like Engagement rings. which they are because they are meant to say that you promise to be faithful to this person jsut like an engagement ring...

wear it on your left hand like an engangement ring and guys will see that you are taken and wont hit on you...if this is a big concern. yea it will help.

As for him wearing one, yeah i would. if you should then he should too...but it isnt nessicary. Many times you find women wearing them but not men. Me and my man both wear one.

My husband says a promise ring means "I promise I will break your heart". If you are really that serious, I would shoot for an engagement ring. I am married, and even a wedding ring doesn't keep guys from flirting with me. I also have kids. Guys see them as **** trophies. Men are sick nowadays! I think promise rings are a waste of time.

Wear the promise ring and offer one to him in return.

LIFE IS TOO SHORT...ENJOY IT!!

It's not an engagement ring, so what have you go to lose?

i think you both should wear a promise ring and it would be even better if you have a promise ring saying the guys name on it and he'll have a ring sayin ur name on it....lightly shaded.

in my opinion, if you where the ring, it wont stop alll men from hittin on you but it will stop some.
