They posted it in the paper and also announced some vehicles to be destroyed...one of which was a Jeep CJ-5.
I tried to claim the vehicle but no one wanted to talk about it.

Why destroy a Jeep if I wanted to make an effort to use it?

If it was used in the commission of or was the scene of a violent crime (past murder, etc) they will not auction it off. Additionally, it could possibly have otherwise been deemed unable to be reconditioned and able to obtain a title if it was once covered in drug residue.

sheriffs do not usually destroy vehicles they auction them off. Sometimes you have to submit a written bid to the office. You must have just talked to the wrong person. You can not claim the vehicle if it is not yours, you would have to buy it at auction. They would not have destroyed a vehicle they could make more money on selling unless it is in Backwards Town USA.

because the auction has already happened, and they do not want to waste the time they would rather see it getting crushed than letting it go to good
