Anything you get free is going to be of limited value. To really learn martial arts you need a school where you can not only get instruction but also advice and corrections when you think you are doing something right but are not.
There are a number of ebooks out there on martial arts and most are ripoffs. I would never advise a beginner to use a book to learn anyway.

Depending on the disipline you are interested in you may search at the library or online.
There is a mulitude of information out there for those whom wish to get free info, but it will give you limited info and will not help much.

If you are just looking to get info and not actual training, go to the library. They have hundreds of books and videos on every different MA out there. And you can walk there to start getting in shape for class (if you needed to).
