The only thing that would be stupid is to let others ignorance, rudeness, or fears make you feel less than you are or bad for something you believe in! Life is full of folks who don't understand other's religions, lifestyles, heritages etc etc. They are not worth getting upset over and certainly not worth giving away your power of feeling bad to. You know what is in your heart and that is NEVER stupid. I believe in respect for all faiths and people and anyone who doesn't isn't worthy of wasting time with! Hopefully someday they will learn more than they know now, but think about it...who is stupid here?

And sometimes just being the person you are and leaving religion out of it lets folks get to know you...and that's one way they may learn. And if they don't, their loss.

I'm not really sure what you are trying to ask here....are you saying that our rules and crap are stupid? Are you saying that becoming a Mormon is stupid? Are you saying that getting used to Mormon rules and way of life is good? Bad? Stupid?

Personally, I don't think that being a Mormon is stupid. My life has been blessed because of my faith, my religion and beliefs. I believe that my family is eternal, that my marriage will last forever because I am Mormon. As for the rules, every religion has a certain code of conduct. I don't believe that in any was is living a moral, good life wrong. I believe that the rules I follow ultimately set me free...I don't drink or smoke, so I don't spend most of my paycheque on cigarettes. I don't come home drunk, I don't put my children at risk by driving drunk, I will never need detox for alcoholism. I am free from addiction to these substances because of a rule...and the rule has been for my best good.

No, the rules aren't hard. Actually, life is a lot easier with them. We don't have to deal with severe addictions like tobbacco (yes, we do have the little ones like sugar and chocolate, but nothing major). And also, we are about as tempted by things which are in our word of wisdom as any wise person is by cigarrettes which are known to be harmful: in other words, not very much.

Also, in response to a few of the other comments thinking we are misguided or something like that: logically speaking, Mormons and Catholics are the only two Christian churches which have a foot to stand on. Catholics believe they were the church with the original authority from God. If a person believes the Catholic church went astray, than the Mormons are the only only ones with a foot to stand on. All of the other Christian religions were started by men stating what THEY thought the bible said or how they interpreted it to be. Only the Mormon church claims to have been given the authority by Jesus Christ himself coming and appearing on the earth. But of course, we can't go by the logical alone. Prayer is the way to find the answer from God. And that is how we encourage people to find their answers. You can't go wrong when you follow the spirit and its promptings. And this is not just emotional. Trust me, though the spirit certainly affects our emotions as well, there is a big difference between the two and it isn't hard to tell it, as many Mormons (and I'm sure many others) can attest to.

Well in Utah there are only two type of people the Mormons and the Mormon haters. I think there is a lot about the religion that I just don't understand, can I say it's stupid, I don't think that's the right word, just sort of strange to anyone who is any other religion. I don't see how they came up with their tenents and they are far from things I could ever live with. Give up coffee, never----. But it is what works for them. It would work a lot better if they just stayed in Utah and didn't try to populate the rest of the country. I'm not so sure it would work with Mit Romney as President of the US, not sure we are ready for a Mormon as a President, it was hard enough to get a Catholic president (JFK), but times have changed. I believe that everyone has a right to their religion and as they have given up the pologomy, the religion is not as way out as it once was. Truthfully I think all religions are stupid they are why we go to war.

I've been Mormon for 41 years. I'm incredibly happy - it's a great way to live!

I also see that by many of the answers on here that some people have no clue as to what the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (aka Mormon) is about. For some correct info about this religion check out the site below:

Actually, most Mormons are well educated. If one were to actually do research outside of anti-Mormon sites they would find a very plausible belief system. There is a lot of evidence which shows our beliefs to be true.

It is insulting that most of the anti Mormons here claim to have extensive knowledge on the religion I follow, by watching South Park, or reading a few paragraphs with Anti Mormon literature.. What are these people thinking.. When I read what they write I just imagine what it is that they are thinking:
"gee it is on southpark it must be real.."
or
"gee these Anti Mormons say this is what they believe so it must be so"

They then proceed to explain my beliefs and practices which are outright lies. It is little wonder why people think we are "stupid", with all of the lies and propraganda being spread around it does make our religion look silly.. But in all reality, their explanation is not our religion. It is a irrational paranoia held by many hateful people.

Just because you do not understand a belief system or cultural code doesn't mean you should dismiss it outright.

If people willingly accept the various rules and responsibilities of an organisation, and being a member makes them happy - who are we to question their decision?

As long as everything is above board, I don't think being a mormon is necessarily stupid. Just different.

Mormons are definately NOT stupid, but are easily fooled. They depend entirely on their "feelings" and think it's the holy ghost speaking. If they get it wrong, they think they must've 'done something wrong'.
On the other hand, the church management is a cluster of old (mostly) white males who have done everything possible to make the membership *not* read anthing or understand anything except what they publish, do not promote debate or discussion of church dogma, and crush and excomunicate originality. There are NO mormon philosophers who are members - only yes-men (not women - women aren't allowed to think, much less hold an opinion).

Mormons are nice people, but they're EXTREMLY lost. It's one of the most random cults out there with a bunch of random rules. God said the Bible was not meant to be altered, or added to, and ta-dah! The Book of Mormon is published by a guy, Joseph Smith, who lived in the 1800, traveled the 'Trail of Mormon' and got mauled by a bear. I'm guessing the vicious attack from the bear wiped out a few brain cells here and there, because he went on to found the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter-Day Saints. A ex-Mormon friend of my family was explaining the intricate (and secret) background of their beliefs. They believe a lizard talked to Joseph Smith and told him he was God. I've confronted a few Mormon friends of mine about this and they haven't heard about it yet. I suspect they don't teach this unless you are older in the religeon, "holier", or have many wives. Sorry to be harsh, but its the only way for you to listen.
