Try a humidifier: Dry air can cause the cough you describe.

Also, vacuum a lot and use a damp cloth to dust, a lot. And consider getting an air cleaner in case pollen and dust are effecting you.

If none of these work, see a doctor: You might have something more serious going on.

Good luck!

Try Ex-lax.... it won't cure you but you'll be afraid to cough.... seriously, try licorice tea, you can get it at health food stores, it taste nasty but it works pretty good. avoid dairy products also. I'm asthmatic, and get bronchitis quite regularly, so i know about these hacking coughs. if that don't work, or if you are coughing any thing up that is yellow green or red, seek the advise of your doctor because it could be something more serious.

I'm not sure why you are coughing. I used to sing and when I would get a soar throat nothing seem to work fast enough for me to sing the next day. Here is what I found and it's worked every time since.
Coffee cup, half t-spoon Cayenne pepper, half t-spoon ginger, and hot water(not to hot). gargle with this as much as you can. DO NOT SWALLOW!!! I asked a doctor why this seems to work. He explained that the pepper acts as an irritant and that forces your own white blood cells to come and fix it faster. good luck.

Go to the doctor. They can check it out and prescribe stronger medication if need be. Syrup with the codeine in it. Good stuff, that.
