How does one get a sponsor for H-1B visa if there's none out in the US to help him? Can immigration lawyers really help get sponsors?

No, lawyers can't find H1-B sponsors because they are not just 'sponsors.' They are employers who must offer you a genuine full-time real job.

Maybe. But any ethical immigration lawyer knows that's not his job. It's not strictly unethical for him to find you a job, but it's kind of like ambulance-chasing in that he's creating his own work.

Beware of any immigration lawyer who offers to find you a job. Usually you will have to pay a lot of money, and then you will receive only fake employment here in the US. (A real company will list you as an employee, but you won't actually work there or be paid.) This scheme works pretty well, except if you are caught you will be deported, and probably lose any chance of ever returning to the US.

The way the system is supposed to work is that you are supposed to find employment. Then a lawyer will work out the paperwork. Usually your employer will find the lawyer and handle her fees.

So, I guess my advice is look for a job first. Or, if a lawyer gets you a job, make sure it's real.

Lawyers do the paperwork on behalf of employers. They will not help you get sponsors as they charge thousands of dollars for the paperwork itself. They are not staffers.
