I had my hair chemically straitened a few years ago. My hair was halfway down my back and really curly. I didn't wash it for 3 days, just like they instructed. When I finally did wash it, it curled right back up (The curls weren't as tight, but it was still noticeably curly). I went back to the salon, and they told me I still had to blow dry it and run an iron over it. I was pissed, b/c I felt like what was the point of damaging my hair if I still had to do that?!?!
But I paid $180 to get it done.
I heard the Japanese method is supposed to work really good, but it can run you anywhere from $400 - $600. Too much for me.
But everyone hair is different. Your hair might take to the chemicals. But it will still get frizzy in the rain : (

I got it done and it didn't work that well my hair is also shoulder length, thick and wavy. I don't live in a humid environment so I have just learned to live with it. I would suggest trying something else rather than chemical straightening, maybe some highlights or a really nice cut trust me it's not worth the money!!

it usually costs around $200-$250, but that depends on where you get it done, and the length and texture of your hair. my hair was pretty much exactly the same as yours and it cost $200 (including a cut). root touch ups are around $75.
after i got mine done, i could go in the rain or humidity, and my hair would stay perfectly straight (it's grown out now).
the downside (and the reason why, after 3 years of straightening, i'm growing mine out) is that for the first month or so your hair will be completely flat with absolutely no volume at all. it's almost as frustrating as having thick frizzy hair.
also, if you bleach your hair before or after the process, it will most likely fall out or be damaged beyond repair (as in you will have a frizzy blond afro, so don't do it).
i would recommend it, it makes maintenance much easier. before i got it done, it look me an hour to do my hair, and after i could just leave it how it was when i woke up.

I've it done 2months ago because i'm tired of straightening it myself using hair iron every day. After the process my hair is not as soft as I expected it to be. And now, I can see the roots and line already. I don't think it will get curly in the rain because mine does'nt.
My advice : Just take really good care of your hair after the process. Go for treatments and protect it against the sun because it can get REALLY dry.
All the best and good luck!

My roommate got the Matrix hair straightening done, and it was $350.00. She was not happy with it at first, because it really damaged her hair, but now she seems happy. It is stick straight and she can literally blow dry it for 5 minutes a it is good to go. (It looks more polished when blowdryed a bit.) Her hair stays straight in the rain, but it is growing out and you can see the line when it is growing. But she said she would do it again.
I personally have curly thick hair and was also thinking about getting this done, but it literally leaves nooo body in the hair. I mean, it is stick straight. I learned to embrace my curls, everyone who has straight hair wants curls, and vice versa. Maybe put some fructis curl construct mousse, and see if you like your waves...

it relies upon on the salon for the fee. the jap formulation is often the costliest notwithstanding it extremely is because that's the simplest (notwithstanding i had it finished it japan and its extremely low priced over there). once you've medium length hair, that's going to be on the pricy area. it lasts so long because it takes on your hair to advance out. once you've obviously curly hair, then as your hair grows your new boom will be curly, notwithstanding the factors that were straightened will stay straightned for round 6 months, even with the reality that i managed to stretch mine to very last round a 365 days. in case your hair is initially in good condition, then it wont damage your hair in any respect. in case your hair is dyed in besides, then the straightening formulation will bleach it by quite a few hues. it truthfully motives a lot less damage than straightening with an iron, and many hairdressers advise that in case you employ irons in many cases, it would nicely be more suitable powerful on your hair to get it chemically finished.

I got it done a couple of times a couple of years ago.. It was a huge mistake. My hair broke off like halfway down and was completely fried! It took years to be decent again and they didin't ever get all my hair straight or really even flat at all. It kind of makes it pouffier just straight puffy.I'm just now kind of growing my hair out from that. I definately lost like an inch of breakage every time. Most salons will tell you the best things about it because it's an expensive process that takes all day so they make alot out of it. I would think about it.

my friend got her hair chemically straightened...it looks burnt! every person (especially curly-haired women) should learn to love their hair and style it so it fits your natural hair. if you want to straighten your hair, then buy a straightener. if you have unruly and curly hair that is always frizzy, but a really good straightener that lets of steam to control the frizz and get a frizz serum...they work! but don't ruin your hair by putting foreign chemicals in there, just learn to live with what you have!
