I dont think so. Time's have changed. The old stereo-type about being out on your own by the age of 18 and married with two kids by the age of 25 are long gone. If your happy there and mom and dad dont mind you living there then dont worry about what other people say. I live at home with my parents because I work out of town most of the week and I cant see paying 500.00 a month for an apartment when I'm not there. Some of my friends give me **** about it...the only difference is I have money and they are broke asses.

It depends. Many states ensure child support until age 22 so a child has time to get a 4 year degree. If you are in college and don't want to spend your study time working, you live with your parents. Maybe you are making a lot of money, paying some rent to your folks and getting to know your folks as adults. Maybe you don't know how to move out.

My sister moved out with friends during college years and I got to move out after that into a place with her. Not everyone has the helping hand to make it easy and fun to move out. I wound up moving back in with my mom around the age of 27 because my living situation dramatically changed and it seemed like a good idea. Getting to know and live with my mother as an adult like that has been a real gift in my life - we are very close friends.

During that time I dated a guy of the same age who had always lived at home essentially becuase he didn't want to have to do the work to pay his own way - I don't even think he paid rent money. Years later I met my husband who lived at home until he moved in with me because his family has more european customs and he didn't really have a legitimate reason to move out. He worked and paid rent and helped out with the family business until I took him away from all that.

You see, there are all sorts of reasons for everything and you need to think and decide for yourself whether you are on the right path or not. Don't measure yourself (or anyone else) with someone else's yard stick.

Peace!

My brother is going to be 22 in May and he still lives with our parents. I lived at my parents until I was 21. It's not too old if you're going to college (which I did and my brother is still going). We didnt have enough money to pay rent on our own so living with our parents made sense. My sister lived there until she was 23 almost 24. She had just graduated and found a job and was saving up so she could get a place that wasnt a complete dump. If you're not attending college I would recommend getting a job (if you dont have one) and saving up to get your own place. I would have liked to get my own place at a younger age but like I said, it wasnt practical. Its so nice to not have to live with parents. Ahhh...the joys of freedom!

Been on my own since I was 19 years old. At 22, I had a good job and an apartment. I think that if you are going to school and you are able to have a good relationship with your parents, then it isn't too old. But, even then, I was taking night classes and working, so it is just up to each family. I have never lived at home since.

I guess that depends on the circumstances...

Do you just mooch off of them?
Are you lazy? Do you lie around eating their food and watching only what you want and expect them to cook and clean for you? Do you leave your things lying around the house? Do you party? Do you take advantage of them?
If so; your parents have done their time raising you and it's time for you to get out on your own and learn what responsibility is.

Or are you a contributing member of the household?
Do you go to college working on your degree? Are you working and saving for a downpayment on a home for your future? Do you help out with chores around the home, pick up after yourself, treat them with respect? Do you have goals worthwhile for your future and have a plan to work towards them? Do you appreciate the things they do for you?
If this is your answer; your parents are likely more than happy to help you gain a more solid foundation for your future. Keep working towards responsible independence and you will maintain a good relationship with the folks. (Don't get me wrong... they will encourage you to "find the right girl and settle down"... and when the right girl comes along; you'll be happy and ready to. ; )

Most of us move out of Mom and Dads house to move back in atleast once. Everyone I know has. But the thing is, once you move out, you don't want to have to go back. If the parents are Ok with it, and the Son is OK with it, then who are we to judge?
I know a 36 year old who still lives with his Mom but he just finished his Medical degree and became a specialist. He is proud of what he accomplished and now has taken on the role of caretaker to his mother.

To each his own.

In some ways yes and others no. Do you work? Are you in college? I say if you do not do either then try to get out on your own or find a roomate. You have been an adult for 4 years, right?
