Right now the Passport Agency is taking up to 10 weeks to issue passports. Has anyone ever had to call them within 14 days of going on their trip? Their website says to do so. Has anyone done this and what happens? Did you receive your passport in time?

I have also already submitted my application 5 weeks ago and they just started processing it, thankfully. But still, what happens when you reach the 14-day deadline?

It is best to give the passport service as much time as possible for your peace of mind. You will be the one to suffer hours of waiting in line and the aggravation and frustration that go hand-in-hand if you don't allow enough time. If you know you are going on a trip out of the country way ahead of time, file your application ASAP. It pays to file early. Especially now that travel season is upon us.

Because of the new passport requirement it is taking up to 10 weeks to process an application. However, should you wish to have your passport expedited, then you should indicate that on your application. The fee to expedite the process is roughly $65-90.

If you filed your passport at your local postoffice, you can obtain passport application status by following the link below. you will need to provide your last name, DOB and last 4 digits of your social.

I got my passport last November for a trip in January without problem. If you are having a problem, the best way to circumvent all the government bureaucracy is to make an appointment and see your Congressman in his field office. You will talk to his contact and this person always knows where to go, who to talk to and what to do.

I live in Tennessee and whenever I have a problem with the Federal government, I contact Bart Gordan's office and speak with his representative. It is amazing what and who they know to get things done.

keep checking your status and if it is getting too uncomfortably close, use the e-mail and/or phone and keep trying to get through to let them know you have an imminent travel situation - be proactive, not reactive - stay on top of the situation.
