NO NO NO these people are all wrong! You have to request 18x as your MOS.
It has to be in your contract!!!!!!!!!!!
You have enlisted as an 11b I assume which is your basic infantryman, if you dont ask for airborne you will not get that school. If you want to go to Ranger battalion you tell the recruiter you want a" RIP" contract.
(RIP=Ranger Indoctrination Program)
If you want to be special forces, you must enlist as an 18x
The process will be like this
ITB 14 weeks (Infantry Training Brigade) Ft. Benning Ga
Airborne School 3-4 weeks. First week is Ground week, the second week is Tower week, and the 3rd week is jump week.
After that you will go to PLDC (Primary Leadership Development Course) I think they have one at Benning, also.
If you make it through all that you will be invited to (SFAS)
Special Forces Assesment and Selection.
Then you will go threw SFS-Q (ALSO KNOWN AS THE Q COURSE)
This is the tricky part, if you havent managed to get hurt and survive this, you still may not be selected.
If you are selected, you will then go to more specialized training, medical, linguistics, demolition.
If you dont get the 18x contract, ask for the RIP contract. Your recruiter will feed you a line of **** about this. Most will say there are no slots available. This is crap tell him, I havent sworn in yet, and I wont ship until I have what I want in my contract. This will piss him off, but he will get it for you. Make sure it is a 18x or a Rip contract. The recruiters job is to spend as less money on you as possible for the military while recruiting more members. It takes 60,000usd to train one Infantryman, and 500,000$ TO train one Green Beret(sf guy)
They would rather 100 infantrymen die than 1 green beret.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE !!!!!!!Tell Him im not going until i get 18x or a RIP contract... He might say you will go to jail. Just tell him that is bullshit, because you havent taken the oath of enlistment at MEPS yet. You gotta understand these guys are snakes.....
Feel Free to email me with his lame *** answer:
Just remember its your life dont let the recruiter dictate it.
I was an Infantry guy did a tour in Baghdad. So I know what is up. I wish someone told me what I am telling you

There are a couple of ways you can go abou this, but time for option number one is pretty much out, unless you defer for a while. That would be to tell your recruiter, then go back to MEPS and get SF training in your contract.
Option number 2 hapens when you get to your unit after OSUT. There will be a SF recruiter there. Go talk to him. You'll need to qualify for a security clearance, and you'll need to pass the PT test with a 239 on the 18-21 year old scale. Shouldn't be a problem after ITB. You'll have to be eligible to attend SFAS at any time; shouldn't be a problem unless you deploy right away.
You're also going to have to take the DLAB, since you'll have to learn a foreign language at some point.
Good luck and Benning and beyond.

This is a question for your recruiter. If you haven't yet been sworn in, it's probably not too late to change your preference. I believe SF still starts out with infantry... and progresses from there, based on performance.
While you're in boot camp, they'll be watching every move you make, especially if you've expressed an interest in SF. If you have what it takes, they'll get you on the right path.
EDIT: By the way... you didn't specify which MOS you're looking at or which branch of the military you're joining... but you did say "Boot Camp"... so I'm assuming you're talking about the Marine Corps.
Also, for the gentleman who served in Viet Nam, thanks for your service! It's been a few years since you enlisted, though... and at this time, potential recruits actually get to work through their contract information before they go to MEPS... the MEPS is the official version... but a good recruiter will have it all worked out with you... and will stand by your side while you're at MEPS and keep you from getting suckered into something else at that point... and they DO try...

After easy you will flow to AIT progressed guy or woman training. Mine grew to become right into a Bradley college, 5 weeks. Then your long previous to the activity station. all of us flow throughthe comparable infantrty easy. from there your MOS (defense force profession ability) will dictate how very own loan AIT is. additionally in case you % to flow Airborne, yet another 3 weeks. i grew to become into an 11Mike 10 (mechanized Infantry)

Do the natural progression. In Boot camp they will ask for Airborne volunteers, you go to airborne school, they will ask if there are any Ranger regiment volunteers, you throw your hand up. After you get to regiment, volunteer for special forces training.

When you are in reception station then is when you ask for what ever you want. In'68 they had us fill out a dream sheet, of course I was drafted so it didn't mean too much, I was destined for 'Nam any way. But that is when you ask for what you want.

You can, but it takes a while. Speak to your Drill Sergeant about it when you get there; he'll tell you what you need to know.
