I have been hearing some negative reports from other consumers that the new Windows Vista operating system and most of the high speed internet services like dsl and broadband are not compatible...can anyone out there tell me if this is true or not?

The only problem I've heard of, as a cable ISP technician, is that the drivers for a rare few discontinued models of modems are incompatible with Vista. However, this only matters if the cable modem is connected via USB rather than ethernet, and USB is almost always a last resort for computers without ethernet cards. I've never seen a Vista-ready computer without an onboard ethernet port, so I can't imagine why someone with Vista would be using USB anyway.

In other words, the odds are staggeringly remote that you'd have any sort of problem.

this is completely false.

Internet services are run by standards that have been in place for almost a decade now. If Microsoft did actually decide to try and change this, Vista wouldnt even sell a single unit as every business in the WORLD would have to replace their networking components.

The likely trouble here is software provided by the ISP. This software is actually not necessary to make the internet connection work. ISP's like to install it because it puts their name in front of your face every 10 seconds.
